re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

I went on Tuesday thanks to a very kind friend and LOVED it! Will definitely be going again, hopefully dragging a few more friends with me. It's a great feel-good show and the atmosphere on the 10th was among the best I've ever experienced in a London theatre.

I took a couple of pictures on the night, inside and out (if they work!):

re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

Glad to see they haven't changed the house curtain.

LURVE the big lippy - just in case any of the gender illusionists (as Miss Understanding likes to call them) need a touch up before curtain :)

re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

Im stunned!
I cant remember the last time I felt like that in a theatre? Probably the opening night of 'Follies' 20 years ago!
It was incredible!
It is stunning!
It is huge!
It is gonna be a huge hit!
The Palace was on fire tonight. 1300 people on a mega-high at a mega-party the West End hasn't seen before!

re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

So glad you enjoyed it mama!

boyfromoz2, from memory the house curtain had a different colour background (ochre?) here and I don't think we had "you are here" written on it.

re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

That isn't the color of the curtain you see there, it is red.
The minute that lipstick started to revolve, the audience exploded.
.......AND then the biggest disco ball descended from the Palace heavens and that was it - a party for nearly 3hrs!

re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

This spectacular is going to totter off with so many awards come next year!
#234

re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

The Palace has 3 tiers, each is adorned with little cherubs with out stretched arms.
For 'Priscilla' each cherub has a disco ball hanging from its hand! Camp is an understatement!

That photo is great! I think the bus has a few more tricks there than what it did here.

re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

Thank you Mama for your review/photos. I worked on this show for so long down under, and it meant so so much to me. All of us have been anxious to hear how it goes in the West End, and to hear things like that said about it makes me so so happy.
Let the party begin!

re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

I'll post a few more thoughts as time goes by but I really don't want to say to much as there is so much to spoil if all is revealed before anyone sees the show. Plus the critics don't see it properly fro another 9 performances!

re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

Re Mama - SOOOO glad you liked the show!!

Re house curtain - I only noticed the "you are here" on TIGGO's photo when you mentioned it. I think the rest of the curtain design is the same.

Re the bus - it looks much fancier than in Australia. I LOVE it!!

Re the disco ball - at the Lyric, there were disco balls along the lighting bars on both circles, as well as on either corner of the pros arch, but nothing like a 6ft high one.

Can't wait till the 25th :)

Bloody Nora!!

Praise Indeed!! re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

Better than Hairspray?

re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

'Hairspray' is absolutely fantastic and I adore the wonderful London production we are so lucky to have!
'Priscilla' goes to another level again.
I'm trying to think up a new work that can describe the theatrical experience that is 'Priscilla'- it really is like nothing the West End has staged before.

Wish i knew how to upload pics from my laptop to here. I have 6 or 7, taken in the finale and some great outside shots day and night.
PLUS a 45 second video!

re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

I absolutely ADORE Hairspray, but I really think Priscilla may give it a real run for its money - esp as I've already been inspired to book tickets to a further two performances.

I hope they sort out the problems with restricted view seating, because this musical really deserves to be seen by loads of theatre-goers.

And the giant Mirror-Ball which descended before the first act was almost worth the admission money alone!

'And the giant Mirror-Ball which descended before the first act was almost worth the admission money alone'!

knowing about this mirror ball is kind of ruining my big day for this, Tigersaurus sorry to quote you, I know you was not the first to quote this, you just happened to be convenient.

Why don't you do what everyone elso does and stick the whole show on you tube?

re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

To be honest knowing about the glitter ball at the beginning of the show ruins absolutely nothing for anyone. Its just there fro the overture- its doesn't do summersaults and it doesn't spit out huge drag queens or anything - its just there!
It just sends out the signal to one and all 'this show is gonna be camper than you can even imagine'!!!

re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

Reality check please! It's an OK jukebox musical (Nothing More), with great costumes. It was clear, Donovan was uncomfortable playing a gay man. As I found it strange. Seeing someone who went to law, to prove he is a raving Hetrosexual. Playing a gay man!
If you keep talking it up. Punters will be left disappointed, remember 'Wicked'. One moment please, while I don the flack jacket!
P.S. Any comparison with 'Follies' is laughable!

re: The Big Pink Bus Has Departed

I'm on about the atmosphere surrounding the show- cant really compare 'Follies with a show like this!!! dear, as most people will realize. I doubt too, very much, you were at the opening of 'Follies'!
Mr Donavon is an an actor and a very happily married man with a young family- he can play any role he is offered and feels fit to play-you have a problem with that? not many people do these days.
