Of course everyone knows now of Leo Bloom and Max Bialystock. I'm just wondering, since the name Leopold Bloom is taken from James Joyce's masterwork Ulysses, does Max have a similar literary namesake? Thanks for your help.

Cheers,

The Jester

Bialystocky is the name of the village in Poland that Mel Brooks (Melvin Kaminsky)'s ancestors emigrated from.

thejester,

also, a bialy is a first cousin to a bagel and a kaiser roll and delicious with a bit of butter or creamcheese......

i always thought Mel Brooks used the name because of the bread product, bialy. :)
