Question About Rent

This is probably going to be a stupid question, and i know i should check this board more often, but can someone tell me why Daphne Rubin Vega didn't sign onto the movie? This has probably been asked 1000 times but i know by coming on here i'll get the fastest answer. Thanks Guys:) Jaye*

She looks a lot older than the rest of the cast, IMO, and just... can't look nineteen. Plus, she just had a baby a few months ago. I don't know that it's the *exact* answer, but probably a factor.

Daphne recently had a baby which would have conflicted with filming.
She was also the oldest member of the OBC.

Hmm i wonder if she was upset? it must suck not being able to be apart of it with all your original cast members. But everything happens for a reason!

She was way too old. When I saw the original production and she said " I'm nineteen" I could've sworn it was a comedy.

If her voice is so screwed up from smoking, then why is she still performing? If it was too bad to do the movie, then it would be too bad to do concerts, and she's still doing those. I think age/motherhood are more likely factors than an unfounded rumor like this.

I heard her live for the first time last October. Her voice isn't completely gone, but she really doesn't sound like she used to. She's still a kick-ass performer, with some of the best stage presence I've ever seen, though.

last i heard fredi walker was hiding on a tropical island. I think I would be more interested to her reprise her role more than ruben vega only because of her post rent seclusion.

i heard the same about fredi. and emcee- i think i was at the same concert as you in october. @ kean? she didn't sound too bad. not like she used to- but not bad at all...

I REALLY wish that they would film her doing "OUUUUT TONIGHT", and add it to the DVD!! She might have to git back in shape, but she can do it!!!

Fredi Walker Browne isn't "hiding" on a tropical island. LOL. SOunds like she's a fugitive or something!

I forget where but she lives on the Caribbean. She came back to do the OBC reunion at Studio 54 a few years ago. And she was Rafiki in The Lion King National Tour a year or so ago.

I saw Daphne in Rent in LA about 6 years ago....woah! She really looks old. You'd really have to suspend reality to accept her as 19 yrs old which I suppose is ok for the theater...but I can't imagine it working for the screen.

I got a real good look at her...her face reflects someone who has lived a lotta life. That's why it looks 'old' to me.
