The right director can make the most unlikely of shows work. So I think anything has potential. But the musical I would most like to see turned into a movie would be Miss Saigon.

Are Touch Me, My Junk, The Word of Your Body and its reprise, I Believe, The Guilty Ones, Whispering, Those You've Known, and the Song of Purple Summer really angsty? I mean, really? Maybe one or two of them sort of have angsty undertones- for instance, if there were no sexual repression, than The Word of Your Body wouldn't be as... interesting- but they're not truly angsty songs. Maybe this isn't the place to ask, but why isn't Avenue Q coming to Chicago? Is it just because our theatres are filled up with long-running productions of things like Wicked?

I agree that its unfortunate it got ZERO noms. I agree that it deserved some of the lesser ones. But that's the politics of the Tony's, I guess. Stuff like that always happens. In the case of the Pirate Queen, its not tragic.

KQuill, I prefer the Broadway Revival, despite the fact that I originally heard the Original Off-Broadway Recording. I only got the Broadway Revival because I was so intrigued by the original. On the other hand, a friend of mine was totally indifferent to the show until she heard the revival. I actually recommend the Tenth Anniversary instead of either of those. I know for a fact that Amazon has it, and I seem to recall that iTunes actually has it as well (could be wrong about that). If you're only going to buy one Les Miz CD, that would be the one to buy (in my opinion). If you really want either the OBC or the OLC, I would recommend the OLC. I also really, really dislike the OBC.

Currently, my favorite is Touch Me. It's just so beautiful! Close seconds are Mama Who Bore Me (both) and I Don't Do Sadness. I know that last year one of the one-act plays my school put on was called 'Admissions.' Does anyone know the author? I'd really like to be able to actually read it. I didn't get a chance to see it, but it was talked about a LOT. It apparantly involves someone facing judgment (like they are dead and being judged), and they are asked questions like "What did you do about AIDS?"

I came the closest I ever have to walking out of a show during intermission this summer. It was an outdoor production of the Merchant of Venice, and it was the worst thing I have ever seen in my life. I liked it very, very much before the revival. I saw a college production of it last April (and loved the OBC), back when they were just reporting "Hey, there's going to be a Sweeney Todd revival!" Glad you liked it! Valjean is not the most interesting role (in my opinion), but Randal Keith is my FAVORITE Valjean ever.

I would absolutely recommend seeing it. It's one of my favorites, and it's what first got me into theatre. It's amazing, and the tour usually doesn't disappoint. Go, and have a great time!

I would be really annoyed if they did a medley for Sweeney. Plus, wouldn't that be at least more difficult than usual b/c of their playing their own instruments? I would like them to do The Ballad of Sweeney Todd, although the sad thing about that is it doesn't really show off the leads. Obviously, I'd be okay with A Little Priest, but I'm not sure I'd want to see a condensed version of that...
