Question about "SPELLING BEE"

Who's the person who did (and/or does) the disembodied voice in the beginning that goes "Miss Peretti...please spell 'syzygy'" and "We have a winner!"

Because the voice sounded different from the CD and when I saw it on Broadway.

re: Question about 'SPELLING BEE'

They always get whoever is playing William Barfee to do the voice. If you listen to the CD you can hear that it is Dan Fogler. And when I saw the show with Josh Gad, you could tell really easily it was him.

Was that true in SF, too? To me, it sounded like Matt Wilson or Jim Cashman.

I'm not sure about the SF cast. I just know that about the Broadway cast.

re: Question about 'SPELLING BEE'

It was Josh Gad when I saw the show a while ago as well. Maybe they decide on who's voice is best and it's usually William Barfee's.

re: Question about 'SPELLING BEE'

Really? because in the the Chicago show, it sounded a lot like the recording, like a recording for that matter...
What a night! I was in more laps than a napkin!

re: Question about 'SPELLING BEE'

It doesn't mean it's not a recording of whoever is playing Barfee.

re: Question about 'SPELLING BEE'

For the longest time in New York, it has always resembled Todd Buonopane's voice to me. I don't know though. I've always pictured him doing it in a mic offstage.

re: Question about 'SPELLING BEE'

Useless fact: in the Australian production, it was the guy who played Doug Panch. Probably because we had a female Barfee with a very disctinctive voice re: Question about 'SPELLING BEE'
