#1Question about BatB (and other shows that close on BWay)
Posted: 2/12/07 at 11:46amFor shows that close on BWay, do they normally produce a videorecording/cast cd recording of its last performance? I really want to go see BatB (I never have), but won't be able to go.

Nope.
If they did, we'd have a vast selection of closed shows on DVD to pick from, like SUNSET BVLD., MISS SAIGON, to even Disney's AIDA, ALL SHOOK UP, etc.
Once a show closes, that's it. It's over. Everyone leaves the theatre after the performance with boxes full of their stuff and everyone looks for other jobs. The producers and cast members give speeches at the curtain call, and that's it. It's not a big deal, unfortunately.

Sometimes you don't even get a speech at curtain call. I was at the final 'Frost/Nixon' in London; they just bowed then left. Ah well. BTW, make sure you see 'Frost/Nixon' when it reaches Broadway, it's AMAZING. :3

Posted: 2/12/07 at 1:29pmYou can still watch tapes of these shows at the lincoln center library, but not the final performances....I don't think we'd want a tape of the final BatB performance anyway, the shows sucks right now, better to have had it preserved a while ago...

Also, judging by the numerous final performances I've attended, they are HORRIBLE, due to the audience -- they shout, scream, cheer, overly applause almost every character entrance, etc., so the flow of the performance of the show isn't like a normal performance. It would not be a true representation of any show if anyone saw a final performance video.

I doubt highly Disney will record any of their shows for public consumption - especially if they use the marketing tactics from their video releases.
What they will do, no doubt, is either do a full out revival after several years, or a "short run" perhaps for what would have been the 20th anniversary or something like that.

Posted: 2/12/07 at 2:00pmExactly. Just as they've done with their classic animated films (Fantasia, Sleeping Beauty, Pinocchio), they'll probably bring them back every 10-15 years or so for a limited engagement.
