Question about a musical number in Billy Eliott

Question about a musical number in Billy Eliott#1

Posted: 2/16/09 at 1:11pm

Hi all. New here . I love Billy Elliot although I have never seen it! I've listened to the soundtrack dozens of times, watched the movie over and over and scoured youtube for tid bits. I hope to see it someday. My question is this - where in the story line does the Swan Lake dance with the 2 Billys come in? Which song is it after?

The Swan Lake ballet comes in after "Deep Into the Ground." If you have seen the movie, then the Swan Lake scene is the scene in the movie where Billy is in the gym with Michael and does his big dance and the father comes in and sees him. In the show, the father comes in and sees the end of the Swan Lake ballet.

I am not sure if you mean the (movie) soundtrack or the (London) cast recording, but in the show the dance comes early in ACt II between "Deep into the Ground" and "HE Could Go and He Could Shine."

These songs are not heard on the soundtrack.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

willep - thanks so much for clearing that up for me. That makes perfect sense.

frontrowcentre2 - you are absolutley right and I committed one of my own pet peeves. it is a cast recording not a soundtrack. Thanks for setting me straight. And it IS the cast recording I've been listening to!

If you have been listening to the cast recording then "He Could Go and He Could Shine" is titled "He Could Be a Star". It is only in NYC that the song is titled "He Could Go and He Could Shine". In the UK and Australia it is titled "He Could Be a Star". All reference to the original title have been removed from the NYC version.
