I somehow stumbled across a recording of Dorothy and John singing "Pleasant Little Kingdom", the song that was later replaced with "Too Many Mornings." Subtle and heartbreaking- I get chills everytime I listen to her sing. My favorite part of the soundboard is when she says "Hi Ben" just before "Don't Look at Me." Your mother was a true master.

Yes, she played Leona at Paper Mill in 1966 with Ron Holgate as Renato and the following year at the St. Louis MUNY with Enzo Stuarti as Renato.

She was devastating as Sally, still one of the best performances I've ever seen.

bk: Thank you for your offer! We do have many Hit Parade tapes here. They're a treasure.
John McMartin and mommy were close friends. They kept in touch until she passed away. She adored him.
I have to say we were pleased to see it was Dame Edna on that recording. We feel the same as you. For us, no one has ever come close to mom's version. I actually get uncomfortable hearing someone else sing it....I guess I'm protective of it.

"Do I Hear A Waltz" at Paper Mill is the show where my parents met. :)

I read that she was the daughter (?) of Fred Stone of Mongomery & Stone who were a vaudeville team who appeared in the original productions of THE WIZARD OF OZ (1903) and THE RED MILL (1906).

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
