I want to see Wicked in San Francisco when the tour stops there. But I am a poor college student and plan on getting the "cheap $35 seats." How bad are these seats? I don't mind sitting a little farther back, but are the seats so poor that I'll need binoculars or something to see the actors faces. Do you think having these seats will ruin the experience of the show?
Hi there!
For $35 I think you may end up side balcony, which is not too good.
I think the last show I saw there was Lennon, and we were in the Balcony at the $45.00 level and were just fine. It's a bit back, but we saw everything on stage just fine and didn't feel we needed binoculars just to watch the performances. I'd bring binoculars if you are interested in watching the special effects of "Wicked" though.
I would NOT get Orchestra in the first 5 rows of this theater, however. I sat through "Showboat" in the 3rd row years ago and it was TOO close to the action.
There's two balconies in the the Orpheum and the second one is high and a long ways back. I've never seen a show from the front, but you probably would need binoculars to see faces from there.
When I saw the Wicked pre-Broadway run, I was in the last row of the balcony, and it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the show, even if my vision was compromised a little. My guess would be that's where you're sitting with the 35 dollar tickets.

Yeah, but the Curran is teeny tiny compared to the Orpheum and Golden Gate. Ok, maybe not teeny tiny, but smaller.
Being a broke college kid myself, I feel the hurt, but I would scrap up the extra 30 bucks for a seat in the mezz.
Yeah...I think that's what I'll do. I really want to see this show and not have the experience suck because of bad seats.
yeah, im poor too.... i take all types of charity....$$$$$ perferably.
