Am i the only one that wears out CD'S? Any advice on how to keep them from warping, skipping and scratching?

Posted: 2/29/04 at 6:43pmwell, the two things that come to mind are, don't leave them in the cd player when you are not listening to them and make sure that you store them in their cases or in cd sleeves that offer appropriate protection. also, if they get dirty, wash 'em. just plain soap and water has always worked for me.

My Jesus Christ Superstar CD has so much skipping and static that I had to re-burn it from a friend. You're not the only one.
My advice to prevent scratches and stuff is to always use a CD cleaner. It works!

Posted: 2/29/04 at 7:17pmLike papa said, clean them with soap and water. It sounds weird, but it works. I also have a cd player cleaner (it's a disk that you pop in for like three minutes, listen to the music and then you're done. There are these little brushes actually on the disk). Often it's the cd player that causes the skipping if it gets too dirty. My Aida cd has started skipping a ton. I need to clean it badly.

If you've got a reasonably new computer, just burn a copy of any CD you expect to listen to a lot as soon as you take it out of the package. Put the original in a safe place. If the copy wears out, toss it, and make a new one. This perfectly legal if you are not distributing the copies but simply using them for backup/personal use.

Posted: 3/1/04 at 6:58pmYeah, I've worn out cd's... first one I wore out was Rent. Then Chicago, now Aida... I've been a lot more careful with my most often played cd's as of late and haven't had too much of a problem... me thinks Wicked might be the next to go lol

Posted: 3/1/04 at 7:07pmI have heard about buffing them using turtle wax helps with scratches, I have also personally buffed cds that skipped with vaseline and they quit skipping, I don't know if anyone else has any cheap home remedies like that that work.

Awesome question, I was wondering the same thing. I got a lot of my CDs when I was little and didn't care about them, so now most of my classics are in bad shape
I'm figuring Les Mis and Joseph are beyond repair. And an accident left my Aida and Rocky really bad as well. Yeah, I rely on my comp and iTunes a lot to keep my tracks nice.

Thanks everybody....I have learned some interesting things here on this thead...I never realized it was possible to wash CD's with soap and water...just never thought about it. ![]()
Thank goodness, I haven't had a problem with any of my CD's, but I have had a problem with some of my DVD's!
Most of my DVD's work just fine, but some of them, even when new, seem to skip in and out...any suggestions?!
I have no idea what's wrong and it drives me cuckoo.
