Questionable Wicked CD

So I was on WalMart's site and wanted to see if they had the book Wicked for sale. Naturally I type in the title and this CD comes up:

I'm just wondering if this CD was even legitimately licensed to be made? The price makes me think it might not have been.

Karaoke or cheep highlights CD's always have terribly cheap cover art...

I've never seen this before (but I don't keep track of WICKED stuff), but Walmart wouldn't be selling it if it wasn't legit.

This came up before...

Turns out that it's a repackaged CD of guide vocals for the 2 disc karaoke version. So, it's just the vocal CD minus the karaoke tracks.

WalMart's buying network is not impervious to some sketchy product sneaking in every now and then. But who knows?

My question is why in the WORLD would you choose to go to Walmart to buy books? Go to amazon or ebay and get it used...

WalMart doesnt have a buying network, the way Walmart works is that buisnesses Rent out shelf space from Walmart.

This is not a karaoke disc. It is a disc of the highlighted songs from the show perfromed by a youthful theater company. And by that I mean most/all the perfromers in their early 20's.

Some of it is not that bad and they do take some liberites with the music. I think it was worth the $7 if you are a Wicked fan.

why buy it used? GO TO A DAMN LIBRARY.....that's what they're for!

Support your local library, because if you don't, someday when you need it it may not be there.

Whoa. Has anyone listened to the clips? No Good Deed is laughable. She sounds bored, not frightened by the fact that her lover could be dead. Or that she's "turning" wicked.

thats not the real cd, the real one has 19 songs and that one has 10, I got the OBC album for 13.88.

The one that you put up is the musical stage company, the cds called musical highlights from the hit stage play wicked.

Completely untrue. Walmart buys wholesale in massive quantities and then supplies its stores from a few centrally located fulfillment centers. If you want Walmart to sell your stuff, you often need to pitch them at their corporate headquarters in Bentonville, AR.

For recorded music, they use 2 outside companies to buy and supply the chain, and you need to pitch those companies to get your product on the shelves.

As for this Wicked "cover" CD, copyright law permits ANYONE to rerecord ANY song and sell it, provided they pay what's referred to as "mechanical royalties" to the copyright holders of the songs. Ever hear of Kids Bop? They're kid-sung versions of current pop songs. That's kind of what this is. Not authorized by the show, but not illegal either.

You do need to pitch your product yes, but they do not buy, they rent their shelf space, thats what made WalMart revolutionary, because even if the product doesnt do well, Walmart doesnt loose money because they got paid for the shelf space. Look it up.

As stated before it does not list the perfromers just that the songs are performed by the "Musical Stage Company" .

There are 10 tracks -

So it does hit the good songs.

It also gives the website www.deltaenterainment.com
and says that the CD is licensed from "Stage Stars"

That's all the info I have. But I do think it is worth the $5.88 + tax that I paid for it - just to hear somthing different - but I'm a big fan of Wicked too - so to each his own!
