Hey I was wondering a) if MTI is restricting Les Mis rights licenses because it is on b'way currently? And b) do they usually allow the rights only once the show ends its b'way run? and c)does Les Mis have an announced closing date right now?
Thanks so much guys!

a) No. Currently the rights are available to professional community theatres only. Although, I'm sure there are restrictions depending on the location. The school edition is also still available.
b) Every show is different in this respect. Though typically the rights are not released until the show has closed on Broadway and finished touring. Long running shows like Les Miz and Beauty and the Beast have released rights prior to these events.
c) Of course not.

Posted: 4/9/07 at 12:44amThere is no such thing as a "professional community theatre". A professional theatre is a theatre that pays professional actors to be in a show. A community theatre is a theatre where members of the community, who have regular jobs, do shows for the fun of it, and do not get paid.
