Did anyone see the life when it was off broadway? How was Mamie Duncan Gibbs? Does anyone know why she didn't do it once it made it to broadway? Was her performance as wonderful as Pamela Isaacs?

Did this play off-Broadway? I don't remember that it did. They released a concept album with a starry cast, but I didn't think it had a life before Broadway.

Nobody could surpass Pamela Isaacs. She has a beautiful soprano gospel belt, a rare voice, and sadly not used often enough.

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

I've only seen the Broadway production, so not sure what what it was like Off-Broadway. It played at the Westbeth Theatre for 12 performances in 1990. The Lortel Archives have Pamela Isaacs as playing Queen, but not sure if that's accurate.

Okay, maybe I had wrong information on what part Duncan Gibbs played off broadway. She is listed as Taffy on the link you provided. She was probably in Chicago when it finally made it to the great white way. Thank you

NYC4Life, you are correct. I saw The Life and Chicago on the same weekend shortly after The Life opened and Mamie Duncan Gibbs was in Chicago.

Loved Pamela Isaacs and Lillias White, but did not care for the show.
