#0Questions re Wicked $$$ grosses

So, I was wondering if anyone had the answers to these two questions:

1. For how many consecutive weeks has Wicked been the box-office champ? [I guess I could figure this out by slogging through the week-by-week numbers, but it's quicker if someone else already knows. Questions re Wicked $$$ grosses ]

2. If not Wicked, what show has the record for most consecutive weeks as champ? [If the all-time champ started prior to the mid-1980s, I'm not sure where I'd be able to look this up.]

Many thanks!

I think the only way would be doing what you said. Updated On: 5/7/06 at 03:07 PM

No, that's plan B. Plan A is to find someone who's already done it, and ask him/her. Hence this thread. re: Questions re Wicked $$$ grosses

Seeing that until WICKED opened, LION KING had a solid 4-5 years as reigning champ, WICKED has a while to catch up...

BWW only has grosses from 2006

Not true. BWW grosses go back to 1984. Use the "Jump to week" function.

Don't you all remember that one week when WiCKED dropped to 99% and BWW had a huge meltdown?

I don't think the figures for Raggedy Ann have been updated.

https://www.broadwayworld.com/grossesshow.cfm?show=RAGGEDY%20ANN

It only shows the "This Week's Gross" and "Last Week's Gross" column. I'd love to see average ticket price and percentage of tickets sold. I wonder if these will ever be updated...

Actually, Wicked hasn't been on top every week. It doesn't have SRO, so there are a lot of shows over 100 percent, and Wicked is at full capacity at 100.

Wicked has been on top as far as DOLLAR FIGURES go, I believe.

Oh, I was just thinking in terms of percentage, because that's what I usually look at. Well, just ignore me then. :)

So, I'm going through Plan B right now, slogging through the weekly grosses, and I can answer the first part of my question:

As measured by dollars taken in the box office, Wicked has been the #1 show on Broadway for 70 consecutive weeks. The last show to top it was The Lion King, which had a two-week run at the top during the 2004 holiday season (weeks ending 26 Dec 2004 and 02 Jan 2005).

In case you were wondering: among non-musical plays, Three Days of Rain has been on top for the past six weeks. Prior to that, The Odd Couple had a 25-week run at the top.

Remember, it is all about dollars. As they said during Watergate, "Follow the money." Always go with the money.

Any ticket sold for any amount of money counts toward the percentage so in theory a show could reach 100+% and yet not sell one ticket at full price.

Also, would you like 102% of an 1100 seat theatre or 100% of a 1900 seat theatre? I myself, prefer the latter.
