This is just sad, and either racist or just prejudice, I haven't made up my mind. Is RACE inappropriate or is "race" inappropriate?

Why would they even think that would be okay to play on the radio?

I doubt they ever expected the commercial to air. But they may be disappointed it hasn't received more attention for not airing.

I'm with Matt on this one...sounds like another Jeffrey Richards publicity stunt that didn't get nearly the "play" he might have hoped it would. Maybe his puppet...ahem, Michael Riedel...will help him out and make a fuss.

Uhh, according to the article, that exact commercial HAS aired on numerous radio stations in the tri-state area. There's just one station that refused to air it.

Has anyone heard the spot on the radio?

I am asking sincerely only because the website on which this article appears is also owned by Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel, the producers of RACE.

Actually James Spader sounds a lot like his character from Boston Public here. I loved that show, so the spot worked for me and made me want to see it. Considering Kerry Washington is in the show - a very busy actress who likely has a pretty busy dance card (I actually know a producer who was hoping Race would close so he could cast her in his tv pilot) I doubt the viewpoint of the play is racist, but I'll post if I find it to be once I have seen it.

I heard this ad back in December. I thought it was terrible then. Not much has changed.

I love this commercial, and I love this play. But yeah, not surprised about the ban.

I don't think its offensive... its supposed to catch your attention. People are touchy. Ditto on the Boston Public love.

Heard the commercial this morning on the radio, 880 news. Since I do not really pay attention to commercials I was only partially tuned in, at first it does not sound like a commercial, so maybe that is why people are thrown off by it. It is not intended to offend anyone, it is intended to tell you what the play is about, so not what the fuss is about.
