Since no one else has responded, I feel compelled to post a very brief review of last night's performance. My wife and I both thought it was wonderful. Quentin Earl Darrington in particular was outstanding, but Ron Bohmer, Christiane Noll, Manoel Felciano, and Jennlee Shallow were also marvelous. The set, costumes, orchestrations, all were terrific. Overall, a first rate performance.

I just looked for official reviews on Google and found nothing... shouldn't they be out by now if it opened last night?

Not sure if the DC critics are as quick to publish reviews as they are in NY.

"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it." -Stephen Colbert

Yeah, I was wondering if maybe regional reviews didn't come out as quickly as they do in NYC. I remember some instances in which they have, though, so I guess it depends.

I saw it on Friday. Was my first exposure to Ragtime and really enjoyed it. Didn't really care for Sarah - and it was impossible to understand her. She was really drowned out the entire time.

I think there is something special about putting on Ragtime in DC at this point in history.

Read Alex Kakfka's rave for Ragtime on DC Theatre Scene.

"the show crept up on my heart, went boom, and startled it many times, and that it moved me greatly and struck me as a genuine theatrical triumph..."

I've never heard of Alex Kafka before but if that review is representative of his talents I'm not surprised. Ick.

Saw the show last night and could not agree more with the positive response.
I should add mention of Bobby Steggert's extraordinary performance as Younger Brother. He added a compelling gravity and realism to the show's more romantic feel. I did love all of the performances, though, and thought the cast was simply first rate. I would highly recommend it!

I invited my friend to see this show with me (next month), and she asked if she could hear the music first, so I gave her my OBCR. She hated the score and said she didn't want to go. But her mom dragged her there last night, and she told me she totally changed her mind about Ragtime and she thought it was absolutely fantastic.

So if this production can convert a Ragtime hater whose hatred was solely based on the score and original cast and not the staging of the original production, I think it can't be too shabby!

Just out of curiousity for those who have seen it...how close is the staging in this production to the original Broadway staging? I'm seeing the show in DC on May 9 after having seen the Broadway production in...1999 or 2000 I believe and one of the main things I remember was the staging being absolutely stunning.

Perfectly Marvelous, I absolutely loved the original Broadway staging, but do yourself a favor and don't go into this production expecting to see an exact replica because that's not going to happen. That being said, this production is wonderfully sung, acted and staged.

I'm definitely not expecting the exact staging, I was just wondering if it was anywhere close. But thanks for the info, I am definitely looking forward to seeing the show no matter what the staging.

I don't know if this is common knowledge or not, but Manoel Felciano will not be continuing with the show for the latest extension. Jonathan Hammond will replace him as Tateh on May 12th for the final week of the run.

Additionally, Christiane Noll will be out of the show on May 16th for both performances.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Thanks for that bit of info. I did not know that. I have tickets for the final performance on the 17th. I might be tempted to go on the 16th to see Christiane's understudy.

I have tickets for Mother's Day Evening. I am so thrilled to see this show. It is hands down my favorite show ever.

"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

I saw the show on Tuesday. I am not easily impressed by most Kennedy Center theatrical offerings in recent years, but this was by far one of the best productions in any theatre that I have seen in recent memory. Brilliant casting, acting, and that glorious score. Its theatrical heaven and I could not resist the urge to buy a few more tickets. I am rarely moved to tears in the theatre, but this show did it for me.
