Ok who remembers when we used to watch Smash and talk about how awkward the kid playing Debra Messing's very angry son came off in his few scenes (not trying to be mean but he like really struggled with the acting). Anyway, tonight saw Best Picture nominee "Brooklyn," googled the delightful leading man Emory Cohen after, and he is apparently that same kid! Did anyone else have this realization??

I also noticed this and mentioned it to my friend after we saw the movie. She straight-up didn't believe me, even after I showed her his IMDB page. I thought he was very charming in Brooklyn but still kind of mumbly.
They were talking about this on the After Smash podcast the other day. Now I have to see it, and eat a banana, and get mad about pancakes.
Wow, that is great !!. SMASh had some awesome talent on the show, shame the writing did not match up with the talented people in the show.
he was straight up terrible on Smash. it could have been the writing though, it seemed like his character should have been about 8 years younger. Plus Debra Messing's scarfs? oy

You do that while I make a rage salad.
Ah good times~
SMASH remains the worst TV show I've ever seen, but I absolutely adored Brooklyn and thought Emory Cohen was really wonderful in it.
Fantod you must not watch TV very much.
It was pretty bad but not nearly the worst of all time.

Not even close, my goodness the show ran two seasons. How many shows have been cancelled in a month - lol. Just the singing of Megan Hilty alone made it a show to watch.

I still don't get the hate for Messing's scarves. We all know people who like a certain accessory and will wear it or variations thereof for years. I assumed scarves were Julia's way of expressing herself, her brand, so to speak. What's so unusual or horrible about that?
I'm looking forward to seeing BROOKLYN even more now, out of curiosity re Cohen's performance.
I didn't say it was the worst show ever made, just the worst show I've seen. TV is not really my thing.

Because they represented the talent-challenged upward failure Theresa Rebeck.

Yes. Yes it did. Big time. In fact, i'd even say that her performance of "They Just Keep Moving the Line" made it worth watching the whole series.
Yes Adam, that's what I think. I saw her in the lobby when I saw 20th Century and told her that performance alone was worth watching it for 2 years.
She smiled, she's a real pro and sweetheart.

Very true but when you look back now it is amazing all the talent on the show. Christian Borle and Brian d'Arcy James (Something Rotten), Leslie Odom Jr (Hamilton) and, Katharine McPhee (Scorpion and really good new album) have done really well since SMASH. Plus, Jeremy Jordan who had done "Newsies", "Bonnie & Clyde" and now has a role on the TV show "SupergirL'.
