Posted: 4/19/07 at 7:39pmI know that Mary Poppins does a backstage tour. Is it possible to get one for RENT. I WILL pay ANY amount of money to get a backstage tour.

I was just there and met with a friend in the cast. They do not do a backstage tour, but they do do a walk on. The person is prepped before the show and is one of the people in the Life Support scene. You know where they say all the names i.e. "Steve...Gordon...Ali...Pam..." etc. The person gets to say their name there. Hope that helps.

WoW. Desperate a bit?
Any amount of money...hmm...let's see....5 million?
They may go for that.

In my last playbill they have the silent auction list, for Spring 2007. The walk on referred to is 2,500, but they do have a simple Backstage Tour listed for 250.
I don't know if they offer it any other time of the year, but the ending date here says April 22nd.

oh, okay. I figured it had to be some sort of an auction thing, unless you know someone. thanks for the info.
I only want to see that wall where everyone signed over the years - and you have to access that by going backstage, dont you? Its not visible to the public?

Posted: 4/20/07 at 12:34am"The Wall" is in the alley that leads from the doors in the lobby to the real backstage area. It's not open to the public, though, so you have to get one of the actors to take/let you back there.

The Life Support walk-on role that BC/EFA auctions usually goes for thousands of dollars, as in, 6-7,000. Years ago, when it began it went for more than that. Several shows do these walk-ons. Rent has occasionally had a backstage tour offered during the BC/EFA twice a year events as well, which is a set price and is included with the offer of photos with the cast, etc. When Joey Fatone was there, he did photos and often he'd hold an impromptu auction during the end-of-show appeal, at the end of which, he'd agree to do it with whomever was in the auction. He raised a lot of money.
Simple backstage tours, other than these, are only available if you know someone in the cast. It's really not all that exciting, to be honest. Seeing the wall is interesting but that's not really backstage, although not accessible to the general public.

Posted: 4/20/07 at 8:27amI got to sign The Wall last year! It's hideous what they're doing to that old theater but interesting -I saw Alicia Keys signature there.

Posted: 4/20/07 at 7:51pmTry calling BC/EFA and see what they will do. Some shows are willing to do it, not sure about Rent in particular. I personally have given tours to people who have given large amounts of money to BC/EFA (like over $1,000, but that might not be the minimum). Can't hurt to ask. Even if it's not normal policy, they might do it for a large enough donation.
