RENT Movie-Why?

Just a few comments.. The film was visually interesting and I enjoyed the way most of the scenes flowed. Loved the tango scene, hated "Sante Fe' but then I loved "I'll Cover You' minutes later. Any notice a major blooper in Santa fe? The editing is terrible as there is an annoyed woman in the corner seat that moves away from Jessie, but in the next few shots she is conveniently missing? It is hystrical and rather cheesy editing on the films part!

But overall, I enjoyed the energy and I'm glad to see Jonathan Larsons work on film!

H.Higgins and megan, thank you! =)

As far as the scenes that were noted as "painful"--the tango hallucination was just that: a hallucination. aAthony singing on the bike? I thought that meant he was thinking this as he rode, not literally singing on a bike, but pardon me, CATSNY, if I'm incorrect. How should a musical be filmed if not by incorporating songs into the characters' everyday lives, expressing their thoughts and feelings through melody?

it wouldn't have been THAT boring just watching them tango. it just screamed "Broadway musical" instead of "rock opera".

yeah, i disagree...i think that hallucination scene was very edgy (in a cool way) and sexy. and you have to remember, it was only a hallucination afterall.

I don't think she disappears --- you see her move to the end of the car...you may not see her actually walk on over there...you're too assume she did it between cuts. -- just like...one second mimi is on the street, the next she is entering her apartment. you don't have to see everything to understand what's going on. the lady on the subway car moves. she's next to tom at one point and then at the end, behind them, the next.

yeah... I disagree with that too. it was edgy in moulin rouge, and even that's pushing it. it was not edgy in rent. it would have been edgy to NOT go with the obvious choice...
