Apparently, RENT will be announcing a closing date for its Off-Broadway run tomorrow (July 3rd).
Not official, just a rumor. But we shall see...

Posted: 7/3/12 at 12:48amIt never looked like this was a particularly good production in the first place. I can see why it would be closing. Also, the article is incorrect when it says that RENT is a Broadway to Off-Broadway transfer. It's not. QUARTET was, but RENT was a revival. New set design, sound, design, direction, costume design, etc. A transfer is identical or a slightly revised/scaled down/up.

Posted: 7/3/12 at 1:25amWell I actually saw the show, and I really enjoyed it. The budget was certainly smaller than the one on Broadway but the set really worked for the show. And I really appreciated the new costumes because the ones they used on Broadway really got on my nerves for some reason.

Posted: 7/3/12 at 1:46amThat I did appreciate. Those costumes weren't very good (Broadway), to me it didn't seem like a new vision of the show. It looked like a fan that tried to recreate a lot of the original production, to me that's cheap, but I never saw it off-Broadway, so my opinion is irrelevant.
