"Without my script right infront of me I can tell you guys that Contact was the only song cut completely, some verses of Out Tonight and Light My Candle. Harmonies were made simpler in On The Street and Santa Fe."

Ohh, I could just imagine high-school Contact. They'd all be so wiggly.

And as harmony changes go, I really think enough material will have already been taken out of the show to compromise its artistic integrity. They shouldn't need to dumb down the music if the talents at this high school are as great as they're said to be.

Hear the words I sing: war's a horrid thing. So, I sing sing sing... Ding a ling a ling.

I can't stand people who try to end a discussion with lines, "don't buy a ticket if you dis-agree". This is a DISCUSSION board. It's about sharing oppinions, not shutting them out. Grow up and learn to respect other's views.
And regardless of who was involved in the editing process, it is still an EDITING process. Editing = censorship.
And I would imagine that the Larson estate would be very happy that there are so many fans who feel so strongly about the integrity of the original piece. Without us, this entire topic would moot. The fans support the show remember?

Honestly, I don't worry about the integrity of the original piece (and the Larsons clearly aren't losing too much sleep over it, either, if they've approved this). High school productions are rarely brimming with the integrity of a professional production, at least any high school production I've seen. I know there are some high schools out there that have high production values and do really quality work, but at the end of the day, most high schools don't. That's not really the point of high school productions.

If the original production survived the movie, it will survive this.

Kringas, you are the voice of reason! Thanks for putting this all in perspective.

Heh. I'm not sure if you're being facetious or not, but the voice of reason is something I'm rarely accused of being.

As I said before, I would love to see a production of Rent Jr. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled to see if there's one in the Chicago area. If so, I am so there.

craww, I got the joke, I just didn't want it, but if that's your idea of hilarity, go crazy.

Emcee, I often think that it would be interesting to see some of my 'early' Marks now to see if my opinion would change on any of them. I'd seen probably a dozen different ones before I saw Joey and I still enjoyed seeing him. As many times as I've seen the show, I don't think I've ever had an entire show ruined due to one performance. One came close but still, the show itself was fun. RENT is coming to high schools...

....that's a good choice Kringas.
They're not actually muppets, but Ernie & Burt should play Tom Collins and Angel.

I guarantee you high schools will start casting Angel as a woman and change Joanne to Joaquin. If they change Rizzo's pregnancy to her getting a hickey, I can only imagine what they'll be doing with this.

I'm not going to get involved with the overall argument on this thread at this point, but apparently Joey found it funny enough to reference himself, calling himself a "fat Mark." I think sometimes one just has to laugh at silly mistakes and jokes like that, really.

I actually trust Larsons family. But i actually liked the Rent movie (maybe cause I didn't expect the second coming) though not as much as I love the show.
Part of me, as a HS senior, is happy to see the chance for some different material for high schools, but I would love to see the script for this.

"Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu" "...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"

"B*tch, I don't know your life." -Xanadu After that if he still doesn't understand why you were uncomfortable and are now infuriated, kick him again but this time with Jazz Hands!!! -KillerTofu

I never said I found it hilarious. I actually find it much funnier that you specifically pretended not to get it to uphold some tenuous modicum of class. On a thread about RENT!: The High School Musical.

That's not really the point of high school productions.

I actually agree with that overall. I'm not one of those people who feels high schoolers shouldn't do certain shows for the sake of the show's integrity, or because they couldn't possibly connect to the characters emotionally, or whatever. I just think it's entirely pointless to do Rent if it needs to be changed so much. Sure, cut the R-rated stuff (like the movie did), but if they have to cut from PG-13 to PG then it's going to end up really silly (in a bad way).
