RENT question

This is probably a stupid question but it has really been bugging me.

There is a part in RENT where Mark's mom sings, "Mark its the wicked witch of the west, your mother...". Well thats what it says in the Cast Recording but when I saw it a guy sang that part and said, "Mark its the wicked warlock (lol) of the west, your father". Did they just do that because they didn't have enough people or what? I know its something really little but I was really confused!

haha that is extreamly amusing!! Yeah if I had to guess, i'd say they just ran out of females...it's happened before, only one time like 85% of the cast was out sick so the AMAZING Yaz Alers had to fill in for all these male roles! that's the joy of love theatre re: RENT question

You know, I don't think that's the first time I've heard of that happening, actually.

Weird. And it was probably a bit more difficult, on account of the extra syllable!

Yea.. it was Owen Johnston. It sounded really funny and awkward and he laughed when he was laughing as he said "warlock".

hahaha thats hilarious! Thats alot like the ensemble guys in skirts for Wicked. Oh well, it happens. All I can say is that I'd be cracking up like mad if I were on stage with them.

A few weeks ago everyone in the RENT cast was either getting sick, sick or getting over being sick. Here is a thread on Mark's Dad

Yeah something is going around the country I think. Everyone at my school is dropping like flies with some kind of bad flu.

Are you serious? My school too! Like half of my grade had the flu last week and we gave it to most of the teachers so today I had 3 free periods. Its so awsome! Except for being sick!

But yeah.. I saw 3 understudies go on that day so there defenatly was something going around.

Yeah half the sophmore class is out and I just got over the worse flu ever. My two best friends now have it. So yeah, its spreading over the country apparently.

Perhaps it was my similarly titled subject or maybe no one knows or cares...but at about the same exact time this RENT question was posted, I too posted one. Which I will copy below... I actually would really like to know this because I happened to be talking to the friend I went to the show with the other day about how it's becoming a movie and she brought it up. So if anyone knows...please shed some light:

I saw Rent a couple of years ago with TKTS tickets and sat high up in the mezzanine. My friend and I were struck by the poor condition of the theater and I mentioned to her that it all might have been purposeful, in the spirit of the show. But the more we sat through the show, the more I realized that at least where I was it seemed a little extreme---major water damage, structural issues, ruined upholstery. So my question is..Is it in fact purposeful? Was the theater in disrepair prior to Rent's run? Do they just not take care of it?

I LOVED the state of the Henry Miller. Perfect for Urinetown.
