RENT scores BEST PICTURE nom from Golden Satellite Awards

Along with nominations for Rosario Dawson and Chris Columbus and sound. These are the first of the year end critics awards, and rarely match up with the Oscars, but fun to know the award season is upon us!

re: RENT scores BEST PICTURE nom from Golden Satellite Awards

The announcement was just made a few minutes ago -- the press release will be on the internet shortly. MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA and BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN both did well. The Golden Satellites split their awards between musical(comedy)/drama - much as the Golden Globes do. Some films clearly were not screened before their nomination deadline, which is one reason why they are never very accurate.

Funny thing is that it has been screened even for small-time critics. I think there are two films (The Constant Gardener and The Producers) that were either deliberately slighted or flew under the radar for this awards body.

Congratulations to everyone and double congrats to Rosario and Chris! *applauds*
1. Ted Allen: Everyone has an interesting life if you ask the right questions.
2. Great buckets of Spoffnor, they're going to sing!
3. "I love shrubs that are historical." -Johnny and The Sprites
4. "We're not singing it to you, we're singing it for us." -Rosario Dawson, about La Vie Boheme
5. "The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours." -The History Boys
6. "Pass the parcel. That's sometimes all you can do. Take it, feel it and pass it on. Not for me, not for you, but for someone, somewhere, one day. Pass it on, boys. That's the game I want you to learn. Pass it on." -The History Boys

re: RENT scores BEST PICTURE nom from Golden Satellite Awards

I thought I knew about all the different awards, but this is a new one to me. Who gives these out? Nice to see Rent getting some recognition. I'm especially glad for Chris, who has been unfairly (in my estimation) excoriated by some critics. I know there are people on this board who hated what he did with the film, but I stand by him and always will. I'm very proud of him.

And of course I give big ups to Rosario!

Well, even if no one's ever heard of them it'll look good on the DVD.

"NOMINATED FOR BEST PICTURE, BEST DIRECTOR AND BEST LEADING ACTRESS!"
And then, under that, in really small print, it'll say which awards. re: RENT scores BEST PICTURE nom from Golden Satellite Awards

re: RENT scores BEST PICTURE nom from Golden Satellite Awards

Evelyn, wasn't it you that posted when The Producers trailer first came out that you didn't like the way the film was shot? Maybe they had the same problem with it and didn't consider it worthy of awards.

Congrats for the Rent noms!

Oh and Anthony--I saw you on LOGO last night on the Out Magazines 100 list (i think thats the name of the show). It was such a cool show, I learned a LOT. Oh, and my mom recognizes you from seeing you on tv from everything I taped. She walks in the room and goes 'he looks farmiliar' hahaha.

YAY!! You guys should be nothing but proud! I don't understand the vendetta against Chris Columbus either, but oh well. YOU should have been nominated, whiteboy re: RENT scores BEST PICTURE nom from Golden Satellite Awards

Hmmmm I don't know. Is this the kind of thing only one person would say? I honestly can't remember what I said about The Producers on here. It will get nominated for many other awards and end up with overall good reviews, as the positive test screenings and slips from critics attest. Golden Satellites sometimes clue us in for Oscar wins but not across the board nominations. I promise you that The Producers has not been left out by GS (and will not be left out by other voting bodies) because people didn't like the way it was shot. The British trailer was deceptive.

re: RENT scores BEST PICTURE nom from Golden Satellite Awards

I was just wondering, because in your other post, you made it seem like this awards body had intentionally slighted The Producers, without any merit to their reasons. I just wondered if you were insinuating that the GS had shady intentions with their nomination choices.
