Holiday in Metropolis

It's a Bird...
...SUPERMAN was mostly stolen by Jack Cassidy, in his truly awe-inspiring way, and by the young Linda Lavin with her two great songs. But Bob Holiday, who had had a small role in FIORELLO! as a young law clerk, really shone as Clark Kent/Superman. He had just the right mix of straight-arrow and tongue-in-cheek that the role needed. The show was just okay, and it was during the Prince-producing time when the last row at every performance went for $2, amazingly cheap even in the days of $9.90 top ticket prices. RIP.

Saw the show as a teen with my mother's and aunt's ORT group. I truly enjoyed it and agree that Bob Holiday struck exactly the right note as Superman. But the musical number I remember best is the "You've Got What I Need" duet between the two baddies, Michael O'Sullivan as the evil professor, and Jack Cassidy as the egocentric reporter vying for Lois' hand. A shame that both of those talented performers met premature deaths. May Mr. Holiday rest in peace.
There will be a recreation of the "You've Got Possibilities" scene in the upcoming PRINCE OF BROADWAY. No doubt the actor playing the "Superman" role (Ramin or no) will have large shoes to fill. As an aside, that may be one of my favorite musical theatre numbers ever...

Agreed. Probably my first Broadway show. All I remember is my disappointment that it wasn't the George Reeves series(I was seven), and Linda Lavin lasciviously attacking Holiday in YGP. Pretty sure it brought down the house!
