Well said, PJ. In times of struggle--regardless of the struggle--art is a release. It is constant. My faith in my fellow Americans has been shaken, but my faith in the arts is stronger then ever.
Sort of related, I think we'll see the end of those White House concerts that PBS usually broadcasts. What performers are going to want to go there?

You know it was those pesky lower classes who live in the middle of the country, away from the coasts, who sent Trump to the White House. If we could just resurrect from the early days of democracy, in the years following the Declaration of Independence through the first third of the 19th century, sound limitations on who received the right to vote, usually restricting it to white male property owners, then those lazy whiners couldn't interfere with our government.
(Heavy sarcasm. If a democracy grants universal suffrage, as almost all agree that it should, they those used to wielding the power accept the risk that those not used to wielding the power may accumulate enough votes to pull the rug out from under the privileged.)
