What is the best book to get all about musical theater? And I mean every aspect of the craft? Lights, Sets, Different shows, Costumes ...ETC.

Any and all responses will be appreciated!

I have four of the older-styled coffee table books which mention all of above,...and includes background, cast & creative team info, among other things.

SUNSET BLVD. (with a bunch of pictures on LuPone/etc.), Miss Saigon, Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera. Some other shows have similar ones too.

If you're interested in any of those shows, look up the books on them! However..they're out of print so you'll have to look on eBay/Amazon used/internet!

"The Season" by William Goldman- every aspect of Broadway is covered as Goldman writes about every show to open in one specific season of Broadway. Some chapters are now very dated (Ticket agencies, for example) and some are downright offensive (his chapter on Gay influence on Broadway) but there has never been a better book about the art & industry of the American Theater.

I'm not sure if ONE book about all that exists.

You can definitley find books that catalogue musicals including origianal cast, plot synopsis, number of performnaces etc.

Also tech books that discuss all Tech aspects.

But together? Doubt it.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
