Ravinia Festival

Anyone planning on seeing anyone special at Ravinia this year?

Anyone special like... Patti LuPone? In "Gypsy"? In August? :x Just curious. There hasn't been much publicity on this and I was wondering who (outside of my own small group) was planning on going. Or had interest. Or whatnot.

Ravinia's a summer music festival that goes from June to September, where they have tons of different artists come and play nightly, like the CSO, Yo Yo Ma, Los Lonely Boys- all sorts of stuff. There's a good lineup of stuff this year at Ravinia Festival, including Elaine Stritch, Audra Macdonald and Brian Stokes Mitchell. I'm DEFINITELY going to Gypsy, and might go to Audra's or Elaine's concert. They're also having a Gala celebrating Gershwin where both Audra and Brian will perform.

Ravinia=heaven. I'm soo pissed though that I leave for college 12 days before audra comes...I've been waiting to see her in concert at Ravinia and the year she comes i miss her

So for THIS year's Ravinia, I'm going to Martinis at teh Martin with Brian Stokes...

one question. How the HELL do I get there? I can drive there right? I see parking but it doesn't say anything about what exit to take or an address to mapquest it or anything.

God I'm bad at directions....

There are instructions for getting to Ravinia at the website. Since I don't know where you are coming from, it's hard to say what is best. Many people take Metra, which let's you off right at the park's gate. Essentially, you can exit at Lake-Cook Road or Clavey Road off the Edens. There are big, big signs with info posted about parking and traffic. Also, you can park in downtown Highland Park (city lots) and there are buses to the park as well. As I recall you don't have to feed the meters in the municipal lots after a certain hour.

I noticed at the bottom of the Ravinia Directions page it says parking is free for Martins Theatre performances.

Thanks! I saw the website, but I was confused by the park and ride thing. I just want to drive there, and park...I thought they were suggesting one of the park and rides that are outside of the city...? i'm blonde

There are signs, however in that neighborhood...they are suble. Just keep your eyes opened. I don't know where you live, but the Metra literally stops within a stone's throw of The Martin.

To anyone still comming to Ravinia events this summer:

Look also at the schedule for the Braeside Metra stop. If you get off there (and it stops more regularly than the festival stop), its only about a 4 or 5 block walk north on St. Johns Ave to the south entrance of the park.

It's also a lot less crowded that the Highland Park metra stops where most people get off and then take a shuttle bus.

Anyone other Ravinia questions, feel free to fire them at me--I'm working there this summer.

Why walk that far? Won't they allow you to cut through the handicapped/press/special persons parking lot?

Yes, they will allow you to walk through the handicapped lot (or you could cut through the South lot). But I guesstimated that at about 4 blocks. Short blocks, but still...
