Miles Kreuger Broadway archive Im pretty sure every one has seen but I think its amazing.
https://vimeo.com/143042235 another one with Bob Fosse in Pal Joey off broadway.
Miles has had the delusional dream for decades that this footage (THAT’S NOT EVEN HIS) will make him a fortune when he personally releases it, but that will never happen because the rights of the shows is cost prohibitive and would never make it possible. Luckily, I was told a few years ago he JUST started keeping the reels in a safer place. There’s no telling how much of this footage has been lost to decay because of his irresponsibility and delusion.
It seems that he has some of the greats digitized, I hope all are, however that outcome is very unlikely, Ive seen can can and damn yankees, I don't understand this mans logic, he wants to release it to everyone but hides in his house and is so selfish. Another thing I do not understand is if he had purchased the videos or it was given to him by Ray Knight.
Updated On: 8/21/20 at 01:42 AMI’m not going to go into how he got them on here but he doesn’t own the rights to them to be able to do what he dreams of doing with them. Also the digitized ones you’ve seen weren’t done by him they were done by people who gave him a ton of money. I’d be surprised if Miles knew how to send a text much less digitize old film.
This I don't understand, Jordan. He's old. Certainly his knowledge and passion is not to be scoffed at, but he's up there in age. How in the hell does he think he's going to make money and enjoy that money at his advanced age? With the clock running down, wouldn't he think it'd be wise to give this footage to the Performing Arts Library at Lincoln Center or the Library of Congress and have whatever copyright issues are involved dealt with by those institutions?
Or does he really not care? Or just, to be glib, crazy? Why not contribute to the scholarship and history of this art form instead of being selfish? Hell, I found a letter that would interest the R&H office a few years ago that was not expensive at all to purchase, and because it had no personal meaning to me, and I knew it would help their archive and musical theatre history, sent it off to Ted Chapin asap.
End of rant. My apologies.
All questions he’s been asked for years.
Think of him like an 85 year old guy on “Hoarders” who has a ton of wood and metal that’s been sitting outside rotting for decades, that he won’t get rid of because one day he’s going to find the time to build something great with it. I honestly believe it’s the same mentality with Miles.

Is this collection the source of those wonderful clips in Broadway: The Golden Age? This collection just sounds almost too good to be true, based on these descriptions. Why anyone would want to sit on this material, keeping it all to himself, rather than sharing it with the world is beyond me. He seems to understand that these archives are of great academic importance, and so his solution is to keep it away from all eyes? Makes no sense. One wants to call him "selfish" but it's hard to see what he is gaining by keeping it private, so perhaps the word "foolish" is more apt.

I agree foolish is a better word, it just ircks me that he goes on and on about how wonderful the footage but then locks it up to decay for years, film is very sensitive and living in california(also we’re experiencing one of the worst heat waves) it gets very very hot and film shouldn’t be kept rotting, it’s a lot easier to get it digitized nowadays and putting in on a little ssd or usb.
also i don’t believe that ALL of the clips from Broadway: The Golden Age ( I may be thinking of Broadway Beyond the Golden Age) but i heard that the ray knight films spans from the 1940’s to late 1960’s
Some of those were used in “Broadway The Golden Age”, a lot we sourced from other places. If the second film ever comes out, there’s so much more we found that I hope gets to be seen.

Really sad. And to think he wrote such a lucid and insightful book on SHOW BOAT in his prime. Is there anyone around still he respects enough to tell him he's lost the battle, but the war is to be won with preservation at larger institutions? Sondheim? Kander? Some elder statesman?
It'd probably fall on deaf ears anyway. I do look forward to seeing Rick's final film, Jordan, and hope it reaches audiences someday. Here's hoping! :)
