Posted: 8/17/04 at 11:49pmI saw FROZEN this evening. I found Laila Robins to be ACTING a lot of the time, and Kurtz's dialect was distractingly inconsistent. O'Byrne was amazing and brilliant. I also saw I AM MY OWN WIFE and don't agree that FROZEN deserved the Tony instead.

I saw Frozen at a matinee a few weeks ago, and saw 'Bug' that evening. A riveting day of theatre, but boy was I on edge that evening.
Nothing that a drink or two at Wet could not handle though....

Posted: 8/18/04 at 6:01pmI took Laila Robbins at face value. She struck me a tons of people I have heard present papers. I even thought she nailed it in her interactions with the killer. I work in an environment where I'm exposed to people like her character all the time. Even one on one with a patient...I think that if you watch carefully, a lot of medical doctors, shrinks, researchers, and nurses tend to distance themselves by engaging in a certain amount of "acting" the part. For me, the slight phoniness of her character rang true.

Agree w Iflit re the "professional distance" behavior it rang VERY true to me. Not sure I agree w how they staged the "kiss" I felt it would have played better if she had kissed her hand & then put that hand on the prisoner ( how do u keep spoilers out of this!!!) Swoozies accent is def a bit off but as I have said b4 u are so caught up in the story it really has no neg impact.
& iflit- if the fruitcake is well soaked in rum- No worries!!!;D

Maybe it edited in the transfer. .
***SPOILER****
@ the end of her "Investigations" into the serial /psycotic behavior the Psychiatrist says good bye. She walks behind the prisoner halts as if she has recalled/decided something and kisses the prisoner on the back of his head, smiles ruefully & walks away.
Simon actually made a point of mentioning it in the original review b4 it transfered as "ringing false"
I agreed as it again did not work w the professonal distance of the character.

Unless I totally missed it both times, I believe that she just touched him on the head with her hand. Made human contact. I thought it worked....and I agree that the kiss wouldn't have worked. Just reaching out and touching him was a revolutionary act for her and was a major breach of her clinical detachment.

Posted: 8/18/04 at 9:50pmThey must have reblocked it after the review. She doesn't kiss him, just touches his head as the other posters said here.
