Re-airing of some old BBC audio recordings of musicals

For those who care, BBC Radio 4 Extra is broadcasting some old BBC audio recordings of musicals over the next few weeks. They can be heard online for 30 days from the (re)air date; Sweeney Todd with Denis Quilley and Julia McKenzie is already available, with Guys and Dolls, Carousel, Jesus Christ Superstar and Kismet to come. I'm sure many posters here have heard these recordings before, or have some means of hearing them anytime they like; but for the rest, they might be worth a listen.

I can't recommend them enough, there are some true gems in there, like Janie Dee's definitive Carrie in Carousel, Julia McKenzie's superb Mrs. Lovett, Adrian Lester as Anthony, Frances Ruffelle's beautiful Mary Magdalene etc.

Was there an earlier staging of Kismet, other than the one which featured Michael Ball, Alfie Boe, and Faith Prince with the English National Opera?

Beautiful? Yeah, okay, if you like Mary to sound like she was pilled up once too often in the prostitute days. If that lady sounded any more lethargic, I'd swear she'd gone narcoleptic during the taping.
