Now, I love all of these performers, and something tells me that if they WERE cast in the following roles, they would somehow be brilliant... BUT - since we are chuckling, here goes:
Carol Channing as 'Carla' (A Call from the Vatican) in NINE
Joel Gray as 'Gaston' in BEAUTY & THE BEAST
Maggie Smith as 'Velma' in CHICAGO
Della Reese as 'Celie' in THE COLOR PURPLE
Liza Minelli as 'Mufasa' in THE LION KING (cross gender casting - it's allowed
Barbara Cook as 'Mimi' in RENT
Brad Garrett as 'Edna' in HAIRSPRAY (although, that might be funny in a great way)
Celeste Holme as 'Ulla' in THE PRODUCERS
