It's ironic that I'm listening to "The Music Man" while I post this. I bet The divine Ms. Luker will knock 'em dead. I have never been a fan of the show, but she will probably be terrific. Hell, she made "Darling of the Day" watchable, and that's no small feat.

Posted: 5/13/05 at 5:25pmI love Nanette, but can't think of a single role that Luker is right for. She may have made an okay Nanette about 20 years ao; but she's all wrong for Lucille.

Posted: 5/13/05 at 5:37pmI appeared in a summer stock production of this show a few years ago, and let me say that it is so dated it make "Sweet Charity" look like "Rent"--but I'm sure Ms. Luker will rise above the material.

Lucille maybe? Dated? Not compared to Annie Get Your Gun or Wonderful Town. It's just a good fun show.

Posted: 5/14/05 at 2:59amNANETTE is dated, but as rewritten in 1971 it is done as a send-up of 1920s musicals (similar to THE BOY FRIEND, except NANETTE is authentic.) The score bubbles like champagne, and the book..well it fills time between the songs. For a show that was such an unexpected hit in 1971, the revised version has been little seen since.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
