Could you please post your source? Is this announcement made today to coincide with its reopening in Vienna tonight?!

I am soooo thrilled right now about this possibility! I hope they bring over Susan Rigvava-Dumas. She deserves it.

Seriously, if there is one European musical that can make a splash out here, it could be this one....it's almost sung-through, but not quite, and it's got a fantastic story and design.

ROUGH TRANSLATION:

Kunze / Levay musical Rebecca goes to Broadway
The UNITED STAGES of VIENNA will be exporting their musical: REBECCA, the musical drama by Michael Kunze and Sylvester Levay after the world-wide bestseller by Daphne du Maurier. [I think it says] Bristish screenwriter/director Christopher Hampton will be translating the script for New York's Broadway, the birthplace of the musical experience. [Something about the contract].

Immediately after tonight's season premiere, Saturday 6 September at the Raimund Theater, Vienna, the contract will be signed on stage: The New York producers, spokesman Ben & Louise Forlenza (BROADWAY PRODUCTIONS INC. GLOBAL.), with Kathrin Zechner VBW and director Thomas Drozda, will sign the contract and REBECCA's journey across the Atlantic will be sealed. By at least 2010, the musical success of the duo Kunze & Levay again directed by Francesca Zambello will premiere on Broadway. REBECCA is already a musical export from Vienna - in addition to ELISABETH, MOZART! and DANCE OF THE VAMPIRE - this year, the show already celebrated on its Japanese premiere on 6 April and on 28 August its premiere in Helsinki.

re: Rebecca on broadway

This is very exciting news.
I pray they don't bring in an American director to restage, reimagine, or ruin this.

My Live Original Vienna Cast Recording has been non stop whenever I've been in my room today. This is such a wonderful event!

I hope they do everything correctly on its journey. I am very happy they'll be in Toronto before coming to Broadway....I think it's a very smart and important move.

re: Rebecca on broadway

Francesca Zambello, Sylvester Levay, and Michael Kunze were all present on stage tonight. Apparently there was a lot of emotions on the stage.

The two producers thanked the VBW for the opportunity to "present THIS magnificent production on Broadway." This was followed by the VBW head presenting the Original Viennese script to the NY producers, and she sobbed out: "Take care of our Rebecca".

Obviously, with Zambello being involved, it seems more than likely that will be a faithful transfer. And the with the creative team so emotional tonight, you know their hearts are in the right place.

re: Rebecca on broadway

I'm so excited for this! I LOVE the movie and the stage show is just wonderful as well. It will be nice seeing something a little different and darker on Broadway than what's currently out there.

I'm anxious to see who will play Mrs. Danvers, its not too often you get female villains of that caliber in a musical.

re: Rebecca on broadway

Loved the symbolic passing of the script and the original creative team staying on the show for the American run...almost makes me wish they'd done the same with "Tanz der Vampire." (Glares in the direction of the American producers)
