Rebecca: New casting rumors...

The word on the street is that Jill Paice is I.

Not sure if she's a big enough name to sell the show but if it is true we'll see if the role could be her breakthrough.

Rebecca: New casting rumors...

Well neither she nor Sierra Boggess are big names. I think they're just going to rely on the name recognition of the film.

How about a reunion between Jill and David Hyde Pierce?

Rebecca: New casting rumors...

Depending on the value of the REBECCA brand name is ridiculous. This show requires real stars who will sell tickets, as well as be able to perform the show well.

Any serious suggestions or good rumors?

Rebecca: New casting rumors...

I know that their reliance on the title is horrible. There are NO names attached, other than being related to a Hitchcock film.

Rebecca: New casting rumors...

Easy

Laura Osnes as I-She already has a following from "Grease"

AND

Catherine Zeta-Jones as Mrs. Danvers-Wishful thinking sigh...

So we'll have to endure another of Jill Paice's boring, sleep-worthy performances.

Excellent.

Sean MacLaughlin was just in the God-awful NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD musical... in a hole in the wall. Interesting career moves...

It would be amazing to have Joan Fontain return as Mrs. Danvers. Aparently, she is still alive.

I'm sorry but David Hyde Pierce as Maxim? Really?? Have you read the book?

Anyway, I would love to see Victoria Clark as Mrs. Danvers (although still not a "name", if that's what is needed).

I have several people I would love to see as Maxim, but I just don't have the strength to fight the tides of abuse on this board that would follow my mentioning them. One of them has been asked, but that was a while ago and the timing may not work now.

In case you need to familiarize yourself, this clip should be very helpful:

Too bad Pia Douwes is doing Mrs.Danvers in Germany.....would love to see her return to Broadway in this.

Rebecca: New casting rumors...

Pia Douwes should be playing this role in NYC. Unless she didn't want to (which is totally her prerogative), I think it's too bad the powers that be (on both sides of the pond) didn't fight to have her play the part here if she did want to play it. She would have swept audiences off their feet, because her performance in the Stuttgart production is bone-chilling.

I fear for this show because the marketing, so far, is some of the worst I have ever seen for a commercial show (for example, any English sound clips they've produced are from the poorly translated demo from well over 7 years ago, before Hampton was involved).

Is Pia really good in Stuttgart? I only ask because I thought Susan Rigvava-Dumas was spellbindingly good on the Vienna recording and what I've seen of her performance, whereas all I've seen of Pia is her straining to hit the high notes and going all crazy bug-eyed and overacting in the trailer. I watched the promotional trailer for Maike Boerdam's go at it in St Gallen or wherever it was and she just didn't have the vocal or charismatic strength to do the part justice.

It's a shame that the show really does just revolve around how good Danvers is...

(My post might contain spoilers in the second paragraph.for those who don't know the story at all...

Pia Douwes has sung the role into her voice since the rehearsals in which that trailer was filmed. She is a much better actress than Susan Rigvava-Dumas, who I felt was very, VERY affected, but with a remarkable voice, however.

Douwes' performance is chilling because she plays the role with an extraordinary amount of inner conflict. There is an amazing moment that she has in the scene when she tries to convince "I" to kill herself... When her attempt is interrupted by the stress signal from the stranded ship in the sea, she breaks out of the attempt and crumbles a little, as if she can't believe the kind of human being she has become. This sums up why her Danvers is heartbreaking because she also has moments of doubt in her actions, which, I think, is very refreshing. ANd thus she creates an amazing contrast between she and "I"... they are both women who come to fight desperately for the respect of their loved ones.

What kind of voice is needed for "I"

I love Pia Douwes. She would be amaze-balls.

What about someone like Leslie Kritzer?

"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

Keep in mind, everyone, that whilst I wish desperately that Douwes would play it here, Mrs. Danvers has been cast for the NYC production... Karen Mason...http://www.playbill.com/news/article/166540-Tix-for-Rebeccas-Broadway-Run-Now-On-Sale-Previews-Begin-Oct-30

"I" traditionally has a sort of soprano/belt mix, hence why Boggess was initially cast, who has been known for both (Little Mermaid/Phantom).
