I am visiting NYC in August for 10 days with my parents (from New Zealand). We have all been before (6th trip for me, 3rd for them) and love the theatre. Parents prefer musicals over plays, I like both but tend to favour musicals also.
Our current theatre lineup is as follows:
Thurs Aug 2 - arrive mid afternoon. Will prob hit up TKTS for either Waitress or Anastasia
Fri Aug 3 - Come From Away
Sat Aug 4 matinee - TBD (?The Bands Visit for me / Once on this Island for them - I don’t think TBV will be their cup of tea and I’ve seen OOTI)
Sat Aug 4 evening - Dear Evan Hansen
Sun Aug 5 - Harry Potter parts 1 & 2
Tues Aug 7 - planning to see My Fair Lady, haven’t purchased tickets yet
Wed Aug 8 matinee - TBD ? Anastasia or Waitress
Wed Aug 8 evening - Hamilton
Thurs Aug 9 - Frozen
Fri Aug 10 - TBD ? Mean Girls
So I’m thinking I will definitely buy MFL tickets in advance as I understand that it’s selling really well. Where would people recommend sitting for this show. I’ve had a look at availability and I’m leaning towards Centre Loge as its a fair bit cheaper than centre orchestra.
Would be interested in recommendations for the other 4 slots that are not yet set in stone. Think we will probably wait and see what’s available last minute from TKTS or try our luck at digital lotteries. Don’t fancy spending time standing in line for rush tickets. However, if there is anything else that people feel is not to be missed then I would be open to buying tickets beforehand.
Mean Girls seems to have mixed opinions on this forum but seems to be selling pretty well. Am thinking that if we decide to see this we should probably buy tickets in advance. Thoughts? Where would people recommend sitting (am toying with front mezzanine).
Even though you've seen OOTI, this production is not to be missed.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I totally agree! I was fortunate enough to have a trip in Jan and bought a last minute ticket to this on the recommendation of many. I absolutely know that my folks will love it. Thought I would take in Bands Visit while they see it as I think it sounds interesting but not convinced Mum & Dad would like it
