Another year has gone by since the show closed. As I mentioned before, other than having Sierra Boggess making her Broadway debut, it was a mistake to close 'Beauty and the Beast' for a mess of a show like 'The Little Mermaid'. Earlier this year, Disney Theatrical decided to what they did six years ago, close a long-running hit show, 'Mary Poppins', for a new show 'Aladdin'. I really hope they are not making the same mistake again.
Here is Ashley Brown singing "A Change in Me" at a concert in London celebrating the music of Disney.

The song meant so much to me in the year 2010 especially when I saw the national tour. For most of 2009 I was recovering from someone who bullied me online and I thought I'd never truly enjoy life again. But I started to do productive and enjoyable things. I soon realized what I wanted in life and who I truly was. I'm so glad it was added to to the show.

I enjoyed Beauty and the Beast.
It had charm, nice songs, and spectacle.
How depressing to think it could have lost the Tony to that horror show, Passion....
Anyhow, I was also glad to have seen Tom Bosley back on Broadway.

I've seen the show a few times on tour since then, but nothing equals the original cast and production. The attention to detail with the sets and costumes was amazing! And I agree with a few people here that no one played the Beast quite like Terrence Mann. He was awesome (and my primary reason for going all the way to NYC to see the show). Plus, Susan Egan, Gary Beach, Burke Moses (the most dimwitted and arrogant Gaston ever!) and Tom Bosley were the best in their roles too. I kind of miss the duet for Belle and her father. Maurice's role in the show has been cut so much since the original production.

In 1996, a concert version of the stage show was presented as an ice skating special called 'Beauty and the Beast: A Concert on Ice'. It featured Susan Egan and James Barbour as the speaking and singing voices of the Belle and the Beast. It also featured other actors from the theatrical show.

Queen of the Night, if you feel old because you were a college student in 1994, you can imagine how I feel -- that's when I turned 40!
I never saw the "Beauty and the Beast" movie or the stage musical, but Saturday Night Live had a hilarious sendup, I think in 2009, with Kristen Wiig as Belle and Gerard Butler as the Beast. Here's the link:

It's amazing how this year marks the 20th Anniversary of the musical. Susan Egan will celebrate this anniversary with a concert at 54 Below.

Time really has flown by quickly. I can't believe that the musical opened on Broadway 20 years ago this year and closed 7 years ago on this day. I am glad that we are getting an upcoming live-action film adaptation by Bill Condon and I'm excited to see and listen the songs being performed on the big screen.
"A couple of new details here. You might be wondering, since the original report doesn't mention any story details, how exactly this thing is going to play out. Sources tell HitFix that Condon won't only be drawing from the 1991 Disney film. In his pitch to the studio, the director said he would also include most, if not all, of the Menken/Rice songs from the Broadway musical that ran for 13 years from 1994 to 2007. It will be a "straight-forward, live action, large-budget movie musical," we're told."
