What ages is Rent appropriate for? I've heard the live show has a lot more mature content than the movie. What kinds of things (nudity/sex/etc) would make it innapropriate for youth (or rural left wing conservatives)? :) The movie implies lots of things but never shows much... what do they show in the play?
I heard the song "Contact" on the OBC recording... someone wanna clue me in on what the actors are shown doing during this scene? (altho i can ONLY imagine...)

At one point in the show, two characters have sex. Due to this, no one under 18 are admitted into the theatre. Showing your ID will be required to get into the theatre.
On the tour, they follow the same rule. It's illegal for anyone under 18 to see the show. If you've already bought your ticket without knowing this, you can go to the box office and probably get a refund.

Huh? I've NEVER seen them ask for ID and I've seen PLENTY of under 18s in the audience.

No, if you are under 18 at that point you can go in the lobby and watch from the 12" tv monitors, you just cant watch from your seats.
No but seriously, people can find anything offensive and inappropriate. To be honest, most of what would be considered inappropriate in the show comes from the lyrics, which you can probably find under a google search. I would say that 75% of the references can go over a kid's head.
But the characters in the play are an s&m dancer junkie, drag queen, another junkie, people infected with HIV, lesbians, a gay couple. So I would say if you're going with younger kids just explain about the characters if they are confused about what's going on.
