Rent

Hey guys,

Any idea/word on whether or not there will be lottery for Rent at the Ford? (Sorry if it's been asked before)

Thanks!

(Side note- I am really starting to hurt every time I think about Xanadu closing...)

re: Rent

It's in the booking agreement with RENT that the local presenters must offer a rush or lottery... their choice.

And I think we're all a bit upset about the Xanadu closing. re: Rent

re: Rent

IT'S NOT CLOSING!!! re: Rent

:: buries head in the sand ::

The last few times RENT has been in Chicago, they have had a rush line. I would imagine they will go for a lottery this time since it has members of the OBC.

Though, I was surprised at how little media attention the Adam/Anthony tour is getting in Chicago. .

re: Rent

The last time the show came through town BIC had something about the Rush policy for the show when you clicked on the link to get information about the show. They have not done that yet this time around.

re: Rent

There has been no official word yet but the last time I rushed Jersey Boys I asked the guy at the box office and he said definitely yes, and I'm pretty sure he said it would be lotto but I don't remember. So there will definitely be either a rush/lotto, my money's on lotto because with Adam and Anthony in the show there will probably be more people interested (although I've always thought that first come first serve is a much more fair system for those who *really* want tickets).

Supposedly my friend knows they'll have a lottery. I have no idea if he's telling the truth. lol

re: Rent

okay i just got back from the box office and here's what they said:
there will be Rush tickets..but then she said ppl line up 2 hrs before the show, not when the box office opens, and then there will also be HotTix discounts...and then MAYBE a student rush that they're not sure of yet. But she didn't seem too sure as to what was going on, except that there were going to be a bunch of different cheaper options I think. I guess we'll just see what happens next week!

re: Rent

TO ANYONE AT BIC READING THIS THREAD: Please, please, PLEASE put something on your website soon about the RENT rush/lotto/whatever. We are all very confused. Thanks! lol

So I took one for the team and called...

I just called BIC spoke to a real person (gasp!) who said that the rush will be first come first serve, not lotto-style, and that tickets will go on sale 2 hours before the show. So I'm not sure how early they will let people line up for them, or how early people will be lining up for them... Anyways, if anyone else got more official word than this please let us know, but that's what the man said and I believe him! lol :)

So.. its a rush line that ends 2 hours before show time?

That sucks!

So you can sit outside all day and get all Chicagoy and then you have less than 2 hours to get home, get presentable, and get back to the theatre?

Grrr.

Can anyone confirm this? Did anyone rush today?

2 hours is perfect to get a bite to eat.

This is how the rush worked at Jersey Boys in SF and currently at Wicked in SF.

Rent tickets are on HotTix now for half off, day-of only. :)

Well. . 2 hours is fine if its a lottery. . but this is a rush line. . where you will be sitting outside on a city street all day.

Usually people line up and they sell the rush tickets for the evening performances when the box office opens at 10ish in the morning.

^ Exactly, like how Jersey Boys does it here. But if you're sitting outside ALL DAY with the other crazy RENTheads in the wind and cold (since apparently the weather here has not yet figured out that it's supposed to be spring), and if you also live on the north side and only have 2 hours to get back to your place and back to the theater using public transportation....it's cutting it close. Don't get me wrong, having rush is of COURSE better than not having it, but I wish they would sell the tickets when the box office opens.

I think that's rare, at least with Rent. I've never heard of a rush line that wasn't an all day affair and then the tickets are purchased two hours prior to the show.

hottix

idk how they do it elsewhere, but Jersey Boys has always done that here. People line up at 8/9 AM (sometimes) and the box office opens at 10, and the people get front row/leftover limited views. Sometimes if your lucky (or if no ones really going anymore) you can show up later and they'll still have tickets.

but with rent...i don't know, has anyone done it? is it.."crazy" like wait all day crazy?
#18

hottix

this seems like a silly question but, for the hottix discount, is that for any seat or just the $77 ones.

hottix

I've never used hottix so I have no clue.

My friend walked by the theater earlier today (around 1:30) and said there were 2 people in line. I'm assuming that there will be way more people rushing on the weekend, but who knows. Rush info hasn't really been very well publicized so maybe people don't know much about it, or when to show up, etc. Or maybe it's just because it's not the weekend yet lol :) Depending on how the show is tomorrow I might try to rush before it leaves.

i've tried hottix two days now online and it's always been in the orchestra, far in the back. you could always try and stop by a hottix location to ask?

I wesnt last night, and I forgot how much I loved this show.

I was expecting Adam & Anthony and a crappy tour cast. . and that was definitely not what I got. Adam & Anthony were the weakest part of the whole show! (Well, Adam was. . lol) I cannot get over how fantastic the rest of the cast was. It reminded me of RENT in the 90s. . back when it hadn't become stale and everyone had the energy to bounce around and enjoy themselves.

Get thee to the Oriental if you want one last she-bang with RENT. . this is a great tour.

4/3/09 review

I'm super tired so I apologize in advance if any of this makes no sense at all lol.

Anthony Rapp: was fantastic. There were one or two times where he looked like...5% bored, but his voice was spot on and he seemed to be giving a lot of energy and heart into his performance. His Mark was not nearly as lacking in personality as many others I have seen, probably because he's been playing the role on and off for so long now lol. His dancing during La Vie Boheme and Tango: Maureen was hilarious! He *did* come out the stage door and zipped through the line pretty quickly, didn't stop to take individual pictures but people were snapping them. He and I had a .10 second conversation lol I won't repeat its contents here, what I said was super cheesy but he was nice about it, especially since he looked kind of tired and probably just wanted to get the hell home lol.

Adam Pascal: looked like he would have rather had his toenails pulled off with pliers than been on that stage. When Mimi (almost) died, the look on his face when he was like "nooooo!" was like....to steal from "How I Met Your Mother," it was like a cat sitting on a porch swing idly swatting at a fly. His voice was okay, even great at times, but he was fo shiz phoning it in. Disappointing. He did not stage door, which I was expecting (expecting him not to, that is), and I saw a few people run after him when they saw him walking down the street (he used a different exit).

Justin Johnston: possibly my favorite performer of the night! Not to sound harsh but I've always found myself caring more about the other characters in RENT than I care about Angel, but tonight he definitely caught my attention more than any other Angel has. His dancing, singing, and acting were spot on, and some of the things he did were just hilarious. I wish we would have caught him at the stage door too, but oh well.

Mimi: I'm really sorry I'm too lazy to look her name up haha but she was the best Mimi I have ever seen! This girl can actually sing while doing Mimi's choreography, a feat, and sounded pretty damn great while doing it. Her acting during the death/final scene was so/so, but overall she was fantastic. I caught her by the BC/EFA table after the show (more on that later) and told her just how fantastic I thought she was haha but we missed her at the door also.

Maureen: eh. I?m so torn. Her acting was great, her ?Over the Moon? was HILARIOUS, the best I?ve seen, but I feel like she just didn?t have the vocals to pull off the role. Maybe it?s just me, or maybe she was having a tired night, who knows. She was hilarious, though, and (imo) looks kind of like Amy Poehler lol. She was the only one besides the actor who played Benny and Anthony Rapp who we caught at the stage door.

Joanne: another eh. Her acting was okay, her singing was okay. Nothing spectacular, not horrible, jush normal I suppose.

Collins: again, sorry I?m not looking up people?s names, I?m exhausted from being out of the house all day lol but he was awesome! This is the Collins that closed the show on Broadway and he was great.

What else am I missing... Gwen Stewart (the soloist in ?Seasons of Love?) was fierce. I was really sad that Telly Leung was not there, he was Boq in Wicked: Chicago for awhile and LZ and I really wanted to bring him some more jelly beans lol. Whoever did Mark?s mother didn?t get the laughs some of the lines normally get, whether that was her or the audience I?m not sure.

Oh, one other random/bizarre thing I noticed was that the band seemed to be having some issues. Maybe I was just hearing oddly, but there were times when the actors and the band seemed to be one or two beats off from one another, and times when separate instruments seemed to come in on the wrong beat when they should have been together. I know how this sounds haha obviously not all of the band are playing the same parts in unison for the entire show, but something just seemed off. Who knows. For the most part it wasn't noticeable at all, and may just be my perception.

Oh, and I didn?t really like what they did with the funeral scene having some parts/words spoken in unison. I think I know WHY they did it, but I just didn?t like it.

Also, for anyone who's interested, they are selling Playbills for $20 and posters for $100 that have been signed by the entire cast, proceeds going to BC/EFA. They are collecting donations in the lobby on the way out and also held an auction tonight to get a walk-on role in the show one night while it's here, 2 people bid $3,000 each and so the stage manager said they would do it 2 nights so apparently these 2 people will be rehearsing with the cast and then having their own walk-on role/curtain calls sometime later this week. Not sure how they're going to manage that but they raised $6,000 for BC/EFA so more power to them! lol not sure if they're auctioning things every night or not. Anyone?

In conclusion: I?d give it an 8/10, a solid and enjoyable performance by most with some notable weak links. And sorry this is so long :)

I thought the production was... lacking energy? Anthony was good, but not the best Mark I've seen which surprised me. Adam was bored, going through the motions but without feeling, and his vocals weren't that hot (then again I've never been a fan of his voice, stylings, or diction/lack thereof).

Justin Johnston is the star of the production. WOW! He sizzles on that stage!

The rest of the troupe seemed to have no energy, or enthusiasm. And the band was all over the place... that was the SLOWEST La Vie Boheme I've ever heard. Tempos seemed a bit slow all over the place.

I dunno, it just seemed lacking to me.
