Posted: 7/10/05 at 5:46pmThere is a rumor that the rights will be out sometime in 2006. The rumor also indicates a student version will be the one that amature companies can perform. It is also just a rumor so I doubt anyone would announce they are doing it for unless they had the rights FOR SURE.

No, I'm crying because there will be young girls mooing out their throats, and young adolescent boys throwing out their voice as well...
I'm sorry. For just some reason, I can't picture RENT being done anywhere besides the Nederlander. But of course, in 2006, I'll probably be proved wrong and will be begging to be cast into a production.
OH! Teh_pretty, YOUR avatar reminds me of this "Friends" episode I saw Joanna in. It was exciting!

Posted: 7/10/05 at 7:54pmI wonder what a student version of RENT would be like. I'm not really excited about it.

Joanna is my wife. I love that woman!
I also love that episode for Friends! Oh man.
But I agree with the young impressionable voices being thrown out of whack. That's gonna be a hell of a production for a high school or community theatre to pull off...

Posted: 7/10/05 at 8:32pmSee at first I was worried about the student version but the I realized that if they effed it up too bad then no one would want to do it and they would have ALOT of angry fans running at them with pitchforks. So I think they will only do it if they can keep the integrity of the show intact.

Posted: 7/10/05 at 8:33pmOh. You'd be so VERY surprised.
#17re: Rent Rights Out by 2006?
Posted: 7/10/05 at 8:41pmI really honestly hope the rights will never be released. I think that RENT could never be done well but anyone else but on the broadway stage. I think I might be a bit biased, but. I just hope they arn't to save the sanity of John and everyone else.

Not Phantom of the Opera. Duh.
And I think Rent could be done on an equity stage that isn't broadway. Just because something is put on a Broadway stage does NOT give it integrity (I am trying with all my might to not cite examples). I am not saying Rent doesn't have integrity. I am saying that it can possibly be done off of a broadway stage. Anything can be done off of a Broadway stage with the right people.
