Rent queston: London west end production

Ok-a question brought on by the new database. so when I was in high school I saw Rent when it first opened on broadway and I know I saw the original cast because my best friend was obsessed. I loved it, but was not obsessed at that point. A few years later I studied abroad in London in 1999 and saw the show in February 1999. So my question is.. did I see the four members of the original cast while I was in London or were they replaced at some point during the run in the west end?

(I have always thought I did..but have never been able to remember. I DO remember the show was amazing, but I was working at a horrible internship as part of my program and was tortured on a regular basis. This was for a PR agency after the whole Clinton intern scandal.. they called me Monica instead of my real name because I have brown hair.. one of my tasks since we did PR for an airline was to stand outside for an entire day asking people if they were in the mile high club. Picture an american kid asking hundreds of brits in the freezing January cold if they were in the mile high club. Why I didn't quit, I have no idea. It's funny now. I wish I had been like, are you ffing kidding me is this a joke. They also used to have dogs running around the office and smoke cigarettes and drink red wine all day. Oh and there was an ex model who worked there and they said they just kept her around for her "fashion past."

The NY leads did indeed open the show in London if only for a few months!

the original London production opened May 12, 1998 - October 30, 1999, the original London cast had already started to leave by the end of the year so the chances are you saw some of their replacements
