There's a production here in Chicago that opens on Friday and runs until May 1st.

I'm directing a production that's slated to open April 29. 20 years to the day it opened at the Nederlander on Broadway, actually. So, if it *is* restricted, it's not for the foreseeable future.

OP, you mean are the "rights" restricted, not the "royalties," which are the payments that go to the author and creative team.

Rights maybe restricted in a geographical area where the tour is planning on playing.

The small theater company that opened their production here in Chicago to great acclaim has been denied the rights of an extension.
It's a bummer a small production of Rent in a tiny bar is being shuttered by a big corporate touring production. It happens, obviously, but it's not really in the spirit of the show.

I think a big corporation shutting down a small company of artists is ironically in the spirit of the show.
