What if they adapt the musical into a straight play or a movie?
I think that would be awesome.
Just wondering :)

No worries. I'm sure La Boheme has been the basis for several plays and movies.
I think antonijan mean a straight play or (straight) movie.
My opinion is that what makes Rent amazing is the music and lyrics, not necessarily the book.
You know, the title makes a lot more sense relating to the post with the little comma I added in after "Rent". I thought you were asking about renting a straight play and was trying to figure out how you'd do that.
Rent is anything but 'straight'.

Adam Chris, haha true dat!
I don't think Rent would translate as well since music is pretty integral to it with the bohemian vibe; it would just be depressing. Also, if you cut out the songs the actual material would be 45min.
Santa Fe would go something like this:
Mark: NYC sucks!
Angel: ditto.
Collins: Lets move to Santa Fe!

Not if Chris Columbus was directing it.

It would also be more dull than his first attempt at adapting it to celluloid.
They added more dialogue into the already-made Movie and frankly, I thought it did nothing.
I love Rent, but the music is what it is all about for me.

Hehe! True!
