considering some production companies are thinking of releasing to theater and dvd on the same day, this isn't very suprising. money numbers in general are not what they used to be, especially considering the cost of some current movies to make.

Actually, I looked it up at work today (I work at Blockbuster) and it said Feb 20th. I was excited. My co-workers got to hear me squeal a bit, too bad neither of the two that actually LIKE Rent were working tonight.

I had the chance to hear Anthony speak tonight, and he said that he, Adam and Chris Columbus recorded the commentary tracks the other day. Yay!

Not to sound too snotty here... but I know EXACTLY about DVD production schedules. I've been interviewed in the trade magazines about it.
When a film goes on a rush schedule, it's usually because it failed at the box office. "Sith" wasn't on a rush schedule. It was always slated for a November release, right from the beginning, when we started working on it. (Not to say that we didn't scramble to get it out, but the schedule was set from the very beginning.)

Disconnected, I would absolutely LOVE it if you are right, but doesn't Blockbuster some time just "speculate" the dates?
timote ... that is fun news to hear ... hours of listening to Adam and Anthony = happiness :)
On top of the commentary/bloopers/documentary extras, I'd realllllly love an unrated version of Rent out (a la Harold and Kumar), but it ain't gonna happen.
I'm curious what Idina and Tracie did in LVB that was too racy for the PG-13 rating.
I also heard from Anthony that there are going to be some interviews on the DVD w/ the cast.
to disconnected824 ~
how is it possible that RENT will be released to DVD on Feb 20th?
last time I checked Feb 20th fell on a Monday.
DVDs are generally released on Tuesdays.
Did you mean the 21st?

Mu psychic ability wasn't able to pick up what you do for a living, but I was certainly never doubting your knowledge on the subject.
I work for a company who's pushing to make that DVD window smaller. I certainly don't have any pull on the subject, and I don't see it realistically happening anytime soon. But it is out there.
My point was that "Rent" coming to DVD as early as February wasn't proof that Sony was freaking out over it's box office.
From a marketing standpoint, which is what I do, that window is about right.

Does that mean they're the only ones doing commentary??
So I work with getting films to my school for our film series (I'm the chair of Film club). So we have started to putting lists together for next semester and are now getting responses from the people that we get our movies from. We have Rent listed as April 7/8 but the guy from the company told us that it will be out on DVD well before this date, and we should bump it up closer to the beginning of the year to ensure attendance. He put the movie in a mid-Feb slot.
i work for major media retailer, and no not wall-mart or target, and we get a weekly update for new releases, for the next 3 months rent will be out feb 21st i saw it and asked my DM if this was typo , it used to be at least 4 to 5 months from theater to dvd. My dm told me because the home dvd $$$$$ is so huge movies will be getting a faster release time from 2to 4 months.

Eek! Sorry, I double checked the computers at work today and they said the 21st, not the 20th. My brain has serious lapses at times.

So I will be on an Anthony high. There will be the Anthony book, the reading in San Francisco, and the DVD release all in the same week! Woohoo! The sonner I get the DVD, the better! I do not really care why it is so, I just want it.

I hope they do what they did on the POTO DVD. 2nd disk had a whole segement on the stage show ...rehersals and such.
All I'm hoping is that there is only one version of this DVD and not one in February and a bigger one in December. I don't mind dropping some serious cash on a movie I love that's also loaded with special features. But I get really angry when they hold out on the good features for a "Deluxe Edition."
