Maybe someone here will be able to help me with this...
I'm going to NYC in November and trying to get good seats for some shows I want to see, I decided to buy tickets in advance. My problem is that, being the airhead I am, I ended up buying a ticket to the new revival Annie for October 18th (thinking it was November 18th).
I realized the mistake as soon as they e-mailed the receipt to me, so I tried sending an message to Ticketmaster's costumer service. The answer was that "the promoter of the event hasn’t given [them] the authority to refund or exchange any tickets to Annie".
Did anyone go through something similar in the past and was able to find a solution for it???
Thanks in advance!

I suggest you call Ticketmaster and explain what happened. Be nice. Be apologetic. Ask if there is any way they can reissue the tickets for you. I have done this several times and both Telecharge and Ticketmaster have been very accomodating.
However, it's possible that with Annie they may not be as accomodating since I would guess they are expecting big sales. But it doesn't hurt to try. They have the right to refuse you, but give it a try.

Don't tell them it was a website glitch. Tell them you made a mistake and ask them if they can help you fix it.
Why tell them something that isn't believable when you can tell them the truth? If they can do it, they will. If they can't, it doesn't matter what you tell them. And they are likely to be more annoyed that you bothered to makeup a stupid story that they won't believe.
I've always told the truth about what I did - and there have been several different reasons why I wanted to change tickets - and they have always made the change for me.
Be polite. Thank them. If they can, they will.

Yes, I guess that's the best I can do. I'm not confident calling them will solve this, but I'll try!
I'm really pissed at myself for doing this... I'm not in a position where I can be wasting money like this. I guess that's one less show I will be attending unfortunately.
Thanks for the help, guys!

Posted: 9/5/12 at 8:12pmIf you don't get anywhere with Ticketmaster, you may want to call the theatre management. A couple of years ago, I had tickets to a show. At the last minute, I was given a free ticket to the dress rehearsal of the Tony's. I went to the box office, explained my situation, and they changed my ticket to my next available date. No fee and no fuss. Of course I was able do this in person, while you are not able to. But its worth a shot. Good luck.

Why do you sound like you've already given up? I've had tickets changed for me through telecharge -- just call and plead your case.
You have a great chance of having this taken care of. The longer you wait, however, your chances wane.

Posted: 9/5/12 at 9:44pmIt's far enough in advance, you should not have a problem. Tell the truth, be apologetic, and if the customer service rep doesn't have authority to do something, ask to speak to a supervisor or someone with authority. Pending the situation, you just may need to get through red tape to get a 'yes' or 'no' from someone who is authorized to say so.

I just called Ticketmaster, and the woman there was very receptive but the answer was basically the same as the one on the e-mail they sent me: They cannot offer refunds or exchanges for this specific event... as I expected.
If anyone is interested in trading this ticket to another one in a date I'll be in NYC, just let me know!

That's a good advice CapnHook!
I'll try calling them again later. The attendant was very kind but she said she was unable to do more for me... maybe a supervisor or someone with authority, like you said, would be better to solve this.

I actually work in ticket sales, and while not for Ticketmaster or Telecharge, it's for one of the largest theatre companies in Canada. Basically we're told that if someone calls back within the same day their tickets were purchased and they made some sort of mistake, we are able to reluctantly exchange the tickets to a different date. (As long as we stress it is a one time thing - and with a supervisor's approval etc etc). As soon as 24 hours pass we can't do the same, however. It's sort of an "everybody makes mistakes" rule. After all, everyone is human.
Of course different companies and different situations will have different rules. But don't give up, I'd say its possible. Do what you can today. And make sure you try first thing in the morning as well.
Ps. For what it's worth: if someone said there was a website glitch that caused them to book their tickets on the wrong date and they called us immediately with the story, we'd just think they were lying through their teeth but would of course take their word for it and do the exchange.

Hey, good news!
I called ticketmaster again. This time, I was a bit more dramatic about my situation haha. The attendant who got my call put me on hold for like 10 minutes before coming back saying she would be able to reschedule the date of my ticket. The seats available were not that great, but a not so great seat is better than no seat at all! haha
Thanks for the help guys. I was already giving it up! Your insights were of great value.

Glad to hear the situation was resolved, kadu!
I'm going to call everyone I know and take back all the awful things I've said about the posters on this board.
