Respect For The Arts

If we are talking about tone, then yes people sometimes get unnecessarily shrill. I wouldn't fret about the actors, producers and directors too much though; in my experience they are the most immoderate of all. Beyond that, however, if you are suggesting that people should not criticize, then I would suggest that you are suggesting disrespect because when we treat everything as good, and don't discuss what isn't, we are insulting the folks who do great work. Theatre is, to borrow a phrase, a hard-knock life for us.

On your other point, I agree.

This is a commercial industry with limited real estate. Discussion about imminent closings and producers' decisions and the like is simply part of it. If you don't like those kinds of conversations, don't participate in them. Moreover, people who are here to talk about that stuff aren't "disrespecting the arts." It's a complete and total misstep to say that the people who want to talk about the industry are spewing "horrible, nasty" things.

We do, however, agree on your point about recording/bootlegging shows. That is certainly a display of disrespect for the arts.
