Help! My sister and I are taking our dad to see Fiddler tomorrow afternoon and need to find a restaurant in close proximity of the theatre. Our dad is elderly and has trouble walking too far - so this is quite a problem: also, he is probably obsessing on some good NY deli.
Unfortunately, Lindys moved too a few blocks north and is now out of the equation as is the Carnegie Deli. I'm afraid there is nothing left close enough for us to get to before the show. Any suggestions?

Umm if you walk down to the end of 45h street to 8th ave then make a right there is a resturant called Le Rendez Vous. It has pizza, chicken, i'm pretty sure deli type of things. Its really not to far of a walk.
"Charlie'O's"
They used to be right under the theatre but they moved west a block but still close.
Carmine's - just across from the Minskoff on 44th between Broadway and 8th. Great food - Italian, family style. You'll love it.
I was going to say Carmines also. If you don't have a reservation, you may have to wait!!!!!!!
If you want deli, go for Ben's, it's somewhere near Times Square. Stay away from Stage, Carnegie, and the highly over-rated Lindys. Seriously, their food is nothing special, especially for NY. If you are willing to spend the money and want the best Deli in Manhattan take a cab or the subway to the 2nd Avenue Deli on 2nd Ave and 10th Street. Ask any New Yorker where it is, and they'll know. If you want directions, PM me. Your father will be very happy with you! There's also the Dallas BBQ in Times Square with amazing ribs. Just look for places that aren't too touristy. Cheap in NY is usually the best. Go a couple blocks away from Times Square, stay on the 8th Avenue side, and you'll find everything. Oh, how I miss NYC.

Angus MacIndoe on 44th, between Bway and 8th, next to the St James, has an American menu, not a deli, more of a pub with great atmosphere, and easy to get to.
For Italian, Carmines and Puleo's are both good and close by.
If you're going to a matinee, The Edison Cafe on 47th St, just 45 seconds west of Broadway is great for breakfast/lunch (not a brunch place). I love their blintzes.
For Angus or Carmines, call to reseve a few days ahead.
i love john's pizzeria, it's also on 43rd street. it has great pizza( no slices) and pasta. the prices are pretty good and the lines are alot less the carmines. its right across from pahantom of the opera
Thanks for all the great suggestions. I know he would love 2nd Ave Deli and will try to get there if we have time. I just hope we don't fall asleep during the show (from being too full to stay awake) if we do. I usually just grab something quick and easy when I'm by myself so this was a tough one. Thanks again.

Isn't there a decent deli/restaurant on Eighth Ave and 45th Street? I think it's actually in the lobby of the Milford Plaza Hotel. It may not be the greatest deli in New York, but if the gentleman is having a rough time getting around, this might be the closest place for a meal. I think I've eaten there and the matso ball soup was quite good.
I think that's the Celebrity Deli? Ate there recently, and it was pretty good.
