I suspected that is what was being done with the delay in a statement from the family. No inside knowledge...just a gut feeling.
Good for them!
LIVE THAT LESSON!!!!!!

When a friend of mine was killed on a bus in tel aviv, his kidneys were donated to a palestinian girl. as awful as it was losing him, there was an eerie solace in knowing a part of him was still doing its part.
hope the redgrave/richardson family gets that same modicem of comfort.

Posted: 3/25/09 at 6:53pmWhen my grandmother that passed before I was born died, her eyes were donated. It's really interesting, because she had a birthmark ON one of her eyes. My dad always says that someday, he'll be looking into his mother's eyes once again... ='(

Posted: 3/25/09 at 7:41pmAs tragic as her death is, I hope it brings her family some comfort knowing her donation saved/improved the lives of the people who receive her organs. My mom's death a few years ago (she was about Richardson's age) was due in large part to the fact she couldn't get a transplant soon enough. By the time she was able to get one, her body was too weak to fight infection.

I had the same feeling and I may have even said as much in one of the threads.

Can we get an organ donor's link?
not that anyone would want my liver.
Love to the Richardsons.
And Natasha's work for curing and supporting AIDS survivors.

Posted: 3/26/09 at 8:53amNot to open up a can of worms, but I think organ donation should be required for anyone who dies. Think of the MILLIONS of lives that could be saved every day around the world if the perfectly good organs that are left after everyone's death could be given to someone who is still living and needs them to survive.

Posted: 3/26/09 at 9:41amI agree that organ donation should be mandatory, but I'm realistic enough to know it won't ever happen - at least not in this country. For some reason some people, usually driven by religious teachings, believe that the body's organs are best left to rot in the grave after their death than to give a chance at continued life to others. I don't understand it - but there it is. The congress will never pass a law that runs contrary to the teachings of any organized religion.

That's because Elizabeth has her head up her a$$.
Hopefully, this beautiful gesture on the part of Natasha Richardson's family will inspire more people to check off the organ donor box on their driver's license and make such intentions know to their families and loved ones.

CurtainPullDowner (and all others who may be interested)...I saw you asked for a link in an earlier post....here's a link if you would like to become an organ or tissue donor.

My thoughts and prayers are with Natasha's family members and friends during this difficult time.

I actually just logged on because I was going to post this. The little girl is from my hometown. I started crying as I read the article; we never fully realize the strange and wonderful ways in which our lives touch the lives of others.

I do disagree that organ donation should be mandatory. However, I think everyone should automatically be an organ donor, and have to sign a form if they don't want to.
That story ran on my local news last night, very touching!

Posted: 3/27/09 at 1:03pmMaking donation mandatory would run right into orthodox Jewish beliefs, for a start - that's why I found Old Chum's story to be so unusual. Israel is perpetually short of organs because virtually no one donates upon death.

I look forward to the day when logic will trump religion.
Logic saves lives.
Religion doesn't (OK, perhaps metaphorically, or emotionally, but it doesn't SAVE people who are MEDICALLY, FATALLY ILL because of non-functioning bodily organs).
