I had a feeling that Richardson's organs were going to be donated.
It just seemed like something that she would have arranged. She was not only a gifted, talented actress but a great HUMANITARIAN.
It's comforting that her passing was not in vain.
She's left the world many gifts of which this is one.

I think automatic organ donation, with a form required if you DON'T want to donate, would be a good compromise. Of course, it's pretty upsetting that there are people who wouldn't want their organs donated, but that's the way of things in a society dominated by the principles of organized religion.
That's also a wonderful story. It's heartening to know that something good came out of Natasha Richardson's tragedy. I hope her family reads it.

The links are still working for me. If you're referring to the one I posted here's the same story on a different site.

Like people said before A Class Act from the beginning to the end. She is still doing good and saving peoples lives after her life was taken. God bless her and her family.

"but that's the way of things in a society dominated by the principles of organized religion."
Uhh, no, that's the way things are in a society dominated by the principle that the government doesn't own your body--be it dead or alive. AND LONG MAY IT CONTINUE!!!

It's seen as fulfilling the highest mitzvah, pikuah nefesh, saving another's life, which trumps any ways (mutilation, for example) it may be considered wrong. If I recall correctly, donation of things like eyes are more of a gray area. And most places are perpetually short on organ donations. My mom waited over two years for hers, and that's in the US. It's not due to religion, but to myths perpetuated by the media and uneducated people about organ donation.

The family has to agree to organ donation regardless of whether or not there is a signed organ donor card. Talk to your family!
