Alice Ripley was absolutely stunning last night. Anyone else there? She performed We Do Not Belong Together and Move On w/ Matt Bogart. He sang Finishing the Hat on his own.

The concert featured musical selections inspired by art. It was very interesting. We Do Not Belong Together started the concert. Alice delivered the lines with sheer force and that remarkable belt that we have come to love. Unfortunately Mr. Bogart appeared to be struggling quite a bit with this material. First off, he’s gorgeous (that goes without saying). However, he was all over the place vocally and appeared out of breath. His breaths were all from his chest and his sound did not carry well through the hall. I’ve heard him before and thought he was a decent singer, but after last night… I struggle to see how he gets such vocally demanding work…

Move On was definitely the highlight of the evening. Alice mustered up every emotion she could get to and delivered a tour de force rendition of the song. I really wish Alice would do more Sondheim! She would make a perfect Dot (as she proved last night). I could also see her as Fay (Anyone Can Whistle), Fosca OR Clara (Passion), The Witch or Bakers Wife (Into the Woods), and I’m dying for her to do Mrs. Lovitt (Sweeney Todd). Of course for the latter she will have to wait at least 10 years…

Well, that’s all. I just wanted to pass on what a delightful evening I had.

I actually saw a brief excerpt from one of the other pieces a week or so ago at a gallery in Chelsea. Very interesting.

Because of the concept, I'm very surprised they didn't do the Color and Light/Follies section of SITPWG.
