Robin Williams in Spamalot? Maybe Jerry Seinfeld or Kevin Kline....

Then again I can't get tickets to see the show now and I am press.
What will happen if Robin goes in. I will never see Spamalot.
I am pissed. I will have to see Spamalot in a year when people are bored with it.

Williams would be thrilling. Seinfeld??? He's great playing Jerry Seinfeld, but can he act? Not so sure about that one.

I've said this in another thread, and I'll say it again. Can Robin Williams do the role(s)? Absolutely. Can he do them without suddenly making the show all about *him*?? Not so sure about that. I hope if he *does* take the role, he remembers it was written as an ensemble show, not as a vehicle for a single star. I'm sure some people here would consider that an improvement...I disagree. Just my opinion. {shrug} I think of the group mentioned in Reidel's article, I'd most like to see Kevin Kline. Of course I'm unlikely to see *any* of them, so I suppose it's a moot point...

I have to say I have the same concern as Lady. Williams is a brilliant comedian and certainly can handle the comical singing of Spamalot, but he definitely thrives on attention aimed squarely at HIM, and I just wonder if he can work as part of an ensemble without making a big mess. The show has room for adlibbing to be sure, but he is so freakin' out of control in live performance, that, well, let's just say it will be interesting to see.

Why would the producers of a show that is sold out put someone of Williams marquee value into the show now? Why would Williams want to step into a role as a replacement for his Broadway Debut (his one man stand-up notwithstanding)? If the show is already sold out through the summer they could put anyone in that show and it would not matter.

That is my point, Corine, why spend all the money to get Williams in a show that doesn't need the bump in sales? Now maybe if he went into La Cage...

Don't jump to conclusions that people will be happy with whatever they get. A LOT of people are seeing the show because of the show itself. And A LOT of people are seeing it because of the actors. At this early stage in the show's life it's not a good choice to go 4 whole months without one of the main leads in the show. The audience, who paid a lot of money for their tickets, will not be satisfied with Azaria's understudy. So, of course they're going to try and cast the role with someone who has the same, or greater, star value to keep drawing the crowds and to prevent cancellations.

So why didn't they get Williams for the Producers? I personally can't stand him, but I would think he would be more attracted to that starring role than to the ensemble nature of Spam.

And am I mistaken that if the tickets are sold you can't get a refund or exchange if the "name" actor has actually left the show.(as opposed to just being out for one night?)So since Spamalot is sold out "forever" they have nothing to loose by putting in a lesser known actor.
